The newest “Dragon Ball Super” episode just dropped a major bombshell on what we thought as fans. You see. Black’s identity was finally revealed, and to some fans delight (as well as dismay) we learned who he truly was. Vegeta, Trunks, Goku and Bulma all traveled to the future once more to confront Black and Zamasu for the fate of the human race. It kind of irks me that Goku, and the gang did almost no training in their recovery time—which is typical in the history of Dragonball Z. I would have loved to see the foursome of Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and Trunks enter the hyperbolic time chamber from training to get them up to Super Saiyan God—or Super Saiyan 3.
What we ended up seeing was more or less a possible repeat of the previous episode—in which Vegeta stampedes in like a raging bull and gets pummeled. The biggest surprise of this episode wasn’t Black’s identity(we’ll get to that in a moment). It was seeing Vegeta be completely selfless for the second time in his life so far. Knowing that he couldn’t stop the Androids in his time, he feels a moral obligation to stop this threat to his son’s world, and show both Trunks’ what it means to have a Saiyan role model in their generation.
As the Prince of Saiyans and a father, we can see that Vegeta has truly ascended to a new level of character for the series. He’s no longer the selfish spoiled Saiyan prince we all saw in the first season of Dragonball Z. Now he’s a father, better warrior, and able to admit his short comings and admit that he’s a friend to Goku. And that he’s actually kissed his wife, unlike Goku apparently.
But let´s get back to why we’re here. Who is Black? And why he’s Goku himself? Well, While he wasn’t really Goku (so much as just his body) we did learn how it all happened. Zamasu used the Super Dragon balls to wish that they switch bodies, then killed the real Goku with his first wish. From there you can gather the rest in that he used time travel to make a second wish for his other self to become immortal, then killed to get the time ring, so on and so forth.
The episode ends on a cliffhanger, a serious one—but the previews light up the fact that Vegeta is looking forward to go a second round with both fighters. Hopefully, he’ll have a different outcome as he always seems to be the joke of the OVA’s, and show when it comes to fighting. He enters strong and sudden, then gets tossed after about 30 seconds of fighting.
