Present day video games tend to be as realistic as possible. And even though the action of a given video game is set in the future or in a post-apocalyptic landscape, there are certain elements that have the role of creating this bridge between real life and the in-game action.

Even though it may not be the first thing that comes to you, gambling is often used to create this bridge. Online gambling is a worldwide phenomenon for some time now. It’s so present in our lives that some countries, like the UK, have a gambling participation of over 50% among adults.

And if we’re used to seeing online slots that borrow elements from video games, or even the entire title and action, seeing the phenomenon happening the other way around is a totally different thing. But enough talking, let’s check out the video games that have a strong gambling component in them.

The Witcher 3

Creating a lot of fuss when it was launched, The Witcher 3 is still going strong among gamers. ITs complex storylines and exciting gameplay ensured an immense success for this highly addictive game. There are many fans out there playing it on a daily basis and those that are regular players are already up to date with Gwent.

If you never heard of that but you’re a Witcher fan, there’s nothing to be ashamed of. It just means you were just too caught up in the main action. Gwent is a great time to kill some time in between killing monsters and it is also a key feature when it comes to going from one game world to another.

You collect cards along the way to have a strong deck and that will call out to all Witched fans that are also huge on poker or any other card game for that matter.

Final Fantasy VIII

Our younger audience will probably take some time to google Final Fantasy before reading on. And with so many awesome installments, it would have been impossible for Final Fantasy not to make it on this list.

Within the main game, there’s the ‘Triple Triad’ a very interesting gambling game on a three by three grid. You will take turns against the AI and the highest card value wins each duel.

Read Dead Redemption 2

Dubbed the most realistic game of 2019, RDR 2 is another huge success from Rockstar. And while they kept their fans waiting for quite some time, they managed to create a masterpiece that perfectly simulates the Wild West.

And, of course, you can’t really talk about cowboys, saloons and sheriffs without a healthy those of gambling. No matter if we’re talking about the old Texas Hold’em or Liar’s Dice, both gambling games are there to perfectly recreate the atmosphere of those times.

Of course, not all players are honest and even you can try to cheat. However, if you get caught you should get ready for a one-on-one fight ‘til death.

Not that we’re encouraging cheating. However, everyone enjoys a good fight every now and then. As long as it stays behind the monitor, of course.

Watchdogs

This video game is another excellent example of how gambling can be used to make the atmosphere a lot more relatable. The poker play and drinking games in the saloon of Watchdogs are excellent for when you just want a short break from all the missions you’re facing.

The developers clearly wanted to give players a chance to try their luck, knowing that there’s a big chance the fans of the game would love to shuffle a few poker cards.

Besides, it is a great opportunity to improve your game balance. So, it’s a win-win situation. Or lose-lose, depending on how good your poker face is.

Fallout New Vegas

Although there’s not much gambling going on in the game per se, FAllout New Vegas is an excellent example on how a popular gambling destination can set the scenario for something else than glamorous red carpets and billionaires trying to outsmart each other.

Of course, the few survivors didn’t forget about their gambling roots and you’ll be invited to a few games of chance along the way. Careful though, as you’re not playing for money anymore.
