***Update 2 – 2017-09-03 – 16:15 CEST***

I’m sorry for the slow update process, but it took sometime before I received a response from the is it blocked in Russia? team. Anyways, this is what Alex Popov told me about the information that I sent them not so long ago:

“Hi Robin,

Thanks for sending the live link. It depends on where the searcher lives. At present we have 4 major locations covered across Russia. I hope to build up more and more locations as the project takes off. I am adding a “checklist result” to the tool that will show results for each individual location checked when you enter a website.”Alex Popov

So there you have it folks. In other words, we’ll have to wait for the is it blocked in Russia team to roll out updates for their website to give more accurate results depending on where in Russia you live.

***Update 1 – 2017-08-28 – 19:15 CEST***

I just wanted to update you guys on the situation with our site being blocked in Russia, because it appears as if some people from Russia can still visit our site (check the comment section on this post for comments by me and Tokira). However, by the looks of it, it depends on which ISP that you’re using. Anyways, I have sent this information/feedback to the Blocked in Russia team. So I’m just waiting for them to get back to me with some new information about our situation in Russia.

As for here and now though.I truly hope that Russia won’t block VPNS and proxies which allow Russians to visit blocked sites in Russia, because that would make it very hard for Russians to visit any website which their government has decided to block…(I understand that you would like to block terrorist sites and such, but Gaming sites? Really Russia?).
—————————————————

I have always wondered how it comes that we got so few fans in Russia. I mean, we have been around since 2014. So one would think that we would at least have a couple of fans over there by now, but nope. Nevertheless, now I might know the reason behind why that’s the case. You see, Alex Popov from “Is it blocked in Russia?” reached out to us just recently, and he informed us that our site might be blocked in Russia. Well, long story short. I tried out the “Is it blocked in Russia?”, and just as I suspected, thegg.net is indeed blocked in Russia (as seen in the picture down below). I have no idea why though…

is it blocked in russia tgg

I have no idea whatsoever, why our site is blocked in Russia.

Anyways, here’s what Alex told us per e-mail:

“Hey!

I came across TheGG.net and I see that you guys have published an article about website restrictions around the world at times. I just wanted to let you know that I just launched this free, non-profit tool called BlockedInRussia.com. It lets anyone check to see if any website is blocked or not in Russia. Maybe it could be a great, useful resource to share with your readers. Either way, keep up the great work over at TGG!”Alex Popov, Is it blocked in Russia?

is it blocked in russia

Here’re some of the reasons why your site might be blocked in Russia (I am yet to figure out which one that applies to our site though…).

So as you might imagine, right now I’m just trying to find some answers to why our site is blocked in Russia, because I honestly have no idea why that’s the case (maybe it’s because of our “Mother Russia Bleeds” post?). I’m also not quite sure how a website could become unbanned in Russia. So that is another thing which I have to figure out (we want fans in Russia too!).

And with that said, what’s your take on this matter? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section!
