Pokken Tournament is Nintendo’s newest entity for the Pokémon franchise, in 3D form. It puts your favorite Pokémon characters on a stage set and they face off for the title of strongest fighter.
Both of the producers from the Tekken, and Soul Calibur series Katsuhiro Harada and Maasaki Hoshino are working on the game respectively.
So far there is no western release, or a planned release for consoles in Japan. The game is coming to arcades in Japan exclusively, but of course we will most likely see more reveals coming soon, especially at the Tokyo Game Show.
One of the biggest questions fans most likely have, is whether the entire roster will be available, or only the original 150+. If we do get the original roster, we can rest assured Mew and Mewto will be there.
With what we can take away from the trailer, certain Pokémon will retain their nobility, and fighting prowess. Pokémon such as Hitmonlee and Hitmontop will obviously be in a class all by themselves as kickers.
Whereas, Machoke, and Machop will be heavy hitters and grapplers. It will be a very exciting game for Nintendo when it releases, and it’s unfortunate that we won’t see it on Playstation or Xbox.
However in the classic Nintendo fashion, we shouldn’t be surprised if we see any Namco characters getting added to the roster like Pacman, or even Tekken characters. Hopefully we’ll get customization, and unique effects as well.
Pokken Tournament is currently in development and is scheduled for release in Japanese arcades in 2015.
