The King has Returned!
Let´s be honest, Blizzard has had (and still has) big problems with World of Warcraft in terms of losing players to other Mmorpg games, and stop players from quitting Wow altogether (players that will never EVER return to Wow again). It´s been like this for years now. Sure, Wow dominated the Mmorpg genre for many years, but times have changed, as games such as Guild Wars 2, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and Neverwinter exists now, and that´s also the reason why Blizzard is doing whatever they can, to stop this downward spiral (as WOW is bleeding players at a very fast rate now). However, there “might” be some hope left afterall. As the world famous Wow player Athene has announced his return to World of Warcraft just recently.
To be honest, at first I thought that it was just a joke, or that Athene was trolling everyone (his notorious for doing this), but no, it´s true. So what does this mean for Wow? And why did Athene decide to return to Wow now all of a sudden? (his been gone from Wow for quite a while). The answers to those questions are actually much deeper than you might think, because according to Athene it´s mainly due to the following things:
– Games are more causal now
– Everyone is playing something different
– Not so many challenges
– No strong social setting like in Wow
– There is not a game that combines everyone anymore
– The gaming scene is getting so much scattered
Let´s reboot Wow and old school Gaming
I don´t know about you guys and girls, but I have to agree with Athene on this. I mean, at least I think that the old-school Gaming days had a lot more to offer. Nowadays, it just feels like you’re having a red bull and some pickup food at Seven Eleven (or whatever) on the fly, it´s that “fast life” kind of experience and taste that exists in Gaming now. For most part there´s no soul, passion or a strong social setting in most games anymore, it´s a “consume,” “digest” and “repeat” kind of thing (imagine it being like eating the same TV-dinners all alone for the rest of your life. It would be rather tasteless, colorless and very lonely for sure) . So I’m all for bringing back old-school Gaming to the world of games again, what about Wow then? Well, Athene is most definitely the right person for the mission to make Wow “Cool” again, because Athene has been something of a poster boy/Star for Wow since 2007. So if he can´t do this, then no-one can!
