I just heard that EA has pulled the plug on the SimCity studio Maxis Emeryville (Spore, The Sims. SimCity). That´s of course really sad for everyone affected by it (i hope that the work staff will find new jobs asap!).
But let´s be honest shall we? The latest edition of SimCity and The Sims wasn´t exactly THE best titles in the series. In fact, both “The Sims 4” and “SimCity” had (and still have) some serious bugs, issues and flaws.
Me, i still remember all the problems that SimCity had with the online mode on launch (it was all over the Gaming news in Sweden).
And “The Sims 4” was a huge let down for most part (some people even went back to “The Sims 3” instead). But even so, this is still sad news. As Maxis Emeryville has been around for over 12 years time.
But the fun is all over now, so R.I.P Maxis Emeryville.
“Well it was a fun 12 years, but it’s time to turn off the lights and put the key under the door. #RIPMaxisEmeryville,” – Guillaume Pierre Maxis, via Twitter
“Today we are consolidating Maxis IP development to our studios in Redwood Shores, Salt Lake City, Helsinki and Melbourne locations as we close our Emeryville location. Maxis continues to support and develop new experiences for current Sims and SimCity players, while expanding our franchises to new platforms and developing new cross-platform IP.
These changes do not impact our plans for The Sims. Players will continue to see rich new experiences in The Sims 4, with our first expansion pack coming soon along with a full slate of additional updates and content in the pipeline.
All employees impacted by the changes today will be given opportunities to explore other positions within the Maxis studios and throughout EA. For those that are leaving the company, we are working to ensure the best possible transition with separation packages and career assistance.“- EA
