I (Robin Ek, TGG) got some very positive news to share with all you Zelda and Nintendo Switch fans out there, because Nintendo Sweden (Bergsala AB) just informed me that Nintendo Switch and “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” has broken tons of different records in Europe (sale and game review records):
“It is with very great pleasure that we can confirm that the new gaming console Nintendo Switch has sold more copies during the launch weekend in Europe than any other game console from Nintendo before. It is also one of the biggest launches we’ve had in the North. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which was launched simultaneously with the Nintendo Switch, is a huge hit with the incredible number of top rankings worldwide and sales in Europe, which is the best ever in the Legend of Zelda series’ 30-year history.
Not only that, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is also by far the best-selling Nintendo games ever launched simultaneously with a game console in Europe. The strikes and the game Wii Sports that had the previous record. March is usually a pretty quiet month in the gaming industry, but certainly not this year.”
Furthermore, the Nintendo Switch-launch is not only one of the biggest launches in Scandinavia for a game console from Nintendo, it’s the biggest launch we’ve had in Scandinavia as the pinch location one.” – Nintendo Sweden (Bergsala AB)
Well, I can’t say that I’m surprised to hear this, because there have been a huge hunger and demand for ZBOTW and the Switch. So it was more or less bound to happen. Nevertheless, congratulations to Nintendo =)
