Square Enix and Marvel Entertainment had a big announcement yesterday consisting of a new partnership over a huge franchise. So, which game did they unveil? (so you might wonder) Well, it’s an Avengers game, a very ambitious one too, because it’s by none other than the people who made the Tomb Raider reboots, Chrystal Dynamics. What were you expecting? A Kingdom Hearts release date?
“Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix announced today a multi-year, multi-game partnership, leading with the reveal of The Avengers project. This newly established partnership pairs the creative minds at Marvel and Square Enix for one of the most powerful alliances in interactive entertainment.
A game based on beloved Marvel heroes, The Avengers project is being crafted by Crystal Dynamics – longtime developers of the award-winning Tomb Raider series – in collaboration with lauded Deus Ex developer Eidos-Montréal.
The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018″ – Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix
With just a teaser trailer to go on, there’s still many question on what the game will be about (other than Marvel’s best kicking ass), as the trailer mainly shows shattered shields, Iron Man’s Arm and Thor’s Hammer. Is it an RPG? Fighting game? Time will tell as more information trickles out in the run upto E3.
Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments section! Personally, I’m not sure what to make of an Avengers game, while I want to be super excited for super hero games; they haven’t really met the levels of greatness like the movies do (Bar Batman). However, this might just be it, especially with a very talented studio at the helm. The possibilities could be endless, and I look forward to hearing more!
