It´s been a well-known fact for quite some time now that the Asian Gaming market is huge not to mention the rise of the online casino market, thus sites such as M88asia. I mean, just in South Korea alone E-sports is pretty much an unofficial national sport (Starcraft, DOTA, League of Legends you name it!). And let´s not forget that the MMO scene is really big in South Korea as well (Gravity Corp made it big with their release of “Ragnarok Online” back in November 2001. And NCsoft’s sequel to Lineage found a huge fan base across Asia).
And the same can also be said about mobile games and browser games as well. So if you toss in other Asian countries such as China and Japan into the mix, then you got an 12,7 billion USD industry for mobile games alone (as of 2016, for the Chinese, Japanse and South Korean mobile games market). So it´s no wonder why a lot of Western game developers, publishers and investors want to get a piece of the pie. However, the competition is very hard and only the best of the best will stand a chance to make it big on the Asian games market.
Even so, a lot of people put everything they have on one card and gamble high and mighty to become successful in Asia. Especially when it comes to mobile games and online games (in particular browser games). And speaking of mobile games, the following games are really popular in Japan and South Korea:
Japan (iOS and Android):
Ritoru Noa (BlazeGames)
Fate/Grand Order (Aniplex)
Brain Dots (Translimit)
Crash Fever (Wonderplanet)
Brain Wars (Translimit)
Specter Watch PuniPuni (Level-5)
White Cat Project (Colopl)
HellFire: The Summoning (DeNa)
Monster Strike (Mixi)
Puzzle and Dragons (GungHo Online Entertainment)
South Korea (Android and iOS):
Infinite Stairs (NFLY Studio)
Wooparoo Mountain (NHN PixelCube)
DomiNations (Nexon)
WARSHIP BATTLE:3D World War II (JoyCity)
Darkness Reborn (Gamevil)
Anipang (SundayToz)
CandyPang (WeMade Entertainment)
Raven (Netmarble Games)
MARVEL Future Fight (Netmarble Games)
Summoners War (Com2Us)
So, what about online browser and MMO games then? Well, I´m glad that you asked. As there are quite a few online titles that are really big in Asia. So you will find some of the most popular online games in Asia at the moment (mainly in South Korea) in the list down below:
Top Asian online games:
Kingdom Under Fire II (Blueside)
Kritika Online (Playpark/ Asiasoft)
Ragnarok Online 2 (Gravity)
Blade and Soul (Team Bloodlust)
Lineage 2 (NCsoft)
Echo of Soul (Mr. Blue)
Maple Story 1 and 2 (Wizet)
Aion (NCsoft)
Guns of Icarus Online (Muse Games)
Tera (Bluehole Studio)
I´ve also been told that the following online games are really popular in Asia as well (quite a few of the games are HUGE on the Western online market as well):
Drakensang Online (Bigpoint Berlin)
Sparta: War of Empires (Plarium)
Stormfall: Age of War (Plarium)
World of Warships (Wargaming.net)
Skyforge (Allods Team)
Last Chaos (Barunson games)
League of Angels II (gtarcade ENTERTAINMENT)
League of Angels I (gtarcade ENTERTAINMENT)
Soldiers Inc. (Plarium)
War Thunder (Gaijin Entertainment)
And as you might imagine, just like Western Gamers (who likes both video, PC and casino games) Asians enjoy casino games as well. And that would explain the rise of mobile and online casino games on the Asian market, and that´s also why sites such as M88asia have started to become really popular. So I think it´s safe to say that both online, mobile and casino games will continue to be on the rise in Asia for a very long time henceforth.
And who knows? Perhaps mobile VR games will be next big thing when it comes to online games and casino games? Time will tell 😉
