As I just happen to be a fan of both CCG´s (collectible card games) and tactical RPGs with dungeon crawl elements. I got quite curious about Free Range Games “Labyrinth.” As the game made me think about a mix of Magic (the card part) and Might and Magic (the turn based tactical combat part) Well, it seems like I’m not the only person that has found “Labyrinth” to be a rather neat title. As the game got greenlit on Steam Greenlight just recently. And it didn´t take all that long for the game to get greenlit either. So I guess that people are really hungry for a good tactical turn based CCG/rpg that offers customization, replayability, depth and the look and feel of a dungeon crawl RPG (that´s actually how “Labyrinth” has been described by the developers themselves. However, It remains to be seen if the game lives up to that description).
So far so good though, and I have to say that “Labyrinth” looks really good as well (thanks to the Unity engine). And the in-game battles looks rather entertaining as well. Besides that, you will also be able to customize your own dungeon decks (monster, boss and trap cards), you can also assemble a party of Hero decks to raid dungeons. In other words, Free Range Games aims to offer us a 3D tabletop adventure out of the ordinary. Personally, I really like the thought of “Player vs Player raids”, and the CCG part (the “BE BOTH ADVENTURER AND DUNGEON MASTER” slogan caught my eye right away). As it made me think about the good Ol Magic days.
Then you got the “Dungeons and Dragons” aspect of “Labyrinth” as well, as the game has a dungeon crawl look and feel to it. So I hope that I will be able to try a demo of “Labyrinth” as soon as possible. Especially since Free Range Games aims to release the game to Windows and MAC by the very start of next year. And who knows? If things goes really well, “Labyrinth” might get released to other formats as well (I bet that the game would do really well on iOS and Android for example).
So what do you guys think about “Labyrinth” so far?
