***Update 2015-06-04 – 14:43 CEST***
I just wanted to give you guys a brief updated on the current status of Impeller Studios space/multiplayer warfare simulator “Starfighter Inc”. Since there´s only 63 hours left on “Starfighter Inc´s” Kickstarter campaign now (Starfighter Inc needs to raise $250,000 in order to reach it´s Kickstarter goal), so there´s not all that much time left on the Kickstarter clock at this moment.
Sure, “Starfighter Inc” is $70,000 short at the moment. However, it´s not quite Game Over yet for Impeller Studios. As 60+ hours might just be enough time for “Starfighter Inc” to reach it´s Kickstarter goal of $250,000. I´m going to be really honest though, if the new pre-alpha prototype trailer doesn’t impress you, then nothing will!
Looks like space sims are making a comeback, Star Citizen, Elite: Dangerous, and now Starfighter could be the next great space sim to be crowdfunded
“Our game is like World of Tanks meets Counter Strike… in space” – David Wessman, Lead Designer
Impeller Studios, a team of industry veterans that is pitching this new game on Kickstarter, has worked in well-known franchises such as Halo, Crysis and the X-Wing series. The game promises a lobby based experienced where players can join 16 v 16 PVP matches and customize their ships, the game also features Newtonian physics and locational damage.
If the game gets enough funding they will add larger PVP matches, extra game modes and even capital ship battles and a single player campaign if they reach their stretch goals.
Too many Space Sims?
With games like Elite: Dangerous, No Man’s Sky and Star Citizen, one would think that the market for space sim is getting saturated, while a small handful of titles is in no way saturation it is true that many gamers are already heavily invested in some of the existing titles, to the point of spending thousands to buy a Destroyer class ships in Star Citizen, which is a whole other discussion in and of itself.
Right now Impeller biggest challenge will be to get the word out so they can reach their first goal of $250000, they are already halfway there with 18 days to go at the time of writing this article, while I can’t wait for Star Citizen to come out I hope Impeller makes it and hopefully brings a different take on space combat.
(Disclaimer: this kickstarter campaign was brought to my attention by a friend that knows people in the development team).
