I bet that I’m not the only one out there that still like 16-bit games. I mean, sure. I can’t speak for everyone else now, but I find 16-bit graphics to be very charming. So even though it’s now the year 2018, I still enjoy both old and new games that are based on 16-bit graphics (I still enjoy old 16-bit games such as “Aladdin”, “The Lion King” and “Super Ghouls ‘N Ghosts” and “Super Castlevania IV”). Well, I think you get the idea. Anyways, speaking of 16-bit games. Tale Games just informed us that their metroidvania ARPG “Faeland” is coming to PAX East 2018 and Kickstarter in April:

“Hello! My name is Carlos Gonzalez and I wanted to share Faeland with you, a game that I’m developing and that you may like! I will be showcasing a Demo version for the first time in PAX East, Boston, April 5th-8th and launching its Kickstarter campaign on April 17th.”Carlos Gonzalez, Tale Games

“Faeland” is currently in development for PC, Mac and Linux. However, the game might land on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch if the game reaches it’s Kickstarter goal on time (Faeland’s Kickstarter campaign is said to launch on the 17th of April).

In other words, Faeland’s Kickstarter kicks-off on the 17th of April, and Tale Games will show case a demo for Faeland at Pax East 2018 in Boston between April 5th and April 8th. So keep your eyes open for the game if you like 16-bit-like metroidvania ARPG’s =) As for here and now though, here’s what’s known about the game so far:

“FaelandTM is a Metroidvania Action Adventure RPG video-game in pixel art style inspired on the nostalgic 8-Bit classics, with a modern charm for all generations. It is currently in development for PC, Mac and Linux, with Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch console ports on the horizon as stretch goals through its upcoming Kickstarter campaign!

In Faeland as the player, you can freely explore the open world, traveling from one town to another, talk to friendly NPCs, learn about the game’s lore and get useful tips, commerce valuable items to improve your economics, buy new equipment and consumables, and do quests to acquire useful loot while progressing in the main story. Some of the areas you need to traverse are challenging forests, caves, dungeons, castles and more. You also have to acquire new abilities and special items to gain access to previously inaccessible areas and paths. The combat style is customized through your equipped weapon, choose from knives, daggers, swords, axes, spears, and bows all with different attack animations, speeds, strengths and effects.”

faeland kingdom come

Faeland’s art style consists of hand crafted pixel-art graphics that resembles the SNES “16-bit” era but without its limitations. In other words, that’s why the 16-bit-like graphics and animations look so smooth and beautiful.

So, what about features then? Well, here are some of the said launch features for “Faeland”:

Features:
– Detailed hand crafted Pixel-Art graphics
– Open world / Metroidvania exploration style
– Level up and learn new Skills
– Change your equipped weapons to match your preferred combat style
– Enhance your armor and enjoy the look of new outfits on your character
– Puzzles & Riddles solving
– Explore large dungeons with challenging boss battles

faeland the forest of death

Besides enemies, traps and other deadly things, there will also be big boss fights for the players to take on in “Faeland”.

As good as that might sound though, there is no release date for “Faeland” at this time. However, it’s very likely that we will get more details about the game’s launch date once Faeland’s Kickstarter launches (which it’s said to do on the 19th of April). I would also like to point out that you can cast your vote on “Faeland” via the game’s Square Enix Collective page. So “if” you like what you’ve seen and heard from the game uptil now, then show the game some love by giving it your vote via Square Enix Collective!
