What would happen if you took Battlestar Galactica, The Lost Fleet series and FTL and mixed them together? Well, you would get Jumpdrive Studios retro sci-fi strategy game “XO” (Windows, Linux and MAC) of course! A game that visually reminded me a lot about the Tron universe. So I have to say that I really like the thought of a game such as XO, and guess what? You´re the captain over your own battleship fleet (what´s left of it), so it´s your job to make all the hard decisions (as you´re both outnumbered and out-gunned). Which of course, is easier said than done.

XO is like a mix of Battlestar Galactica, The Lost Fleet series and FTL.

No, instead you have to focus on managing resources and to command your fleet (pick your battles with great care!). Keep this in mind though, your leadership will either make or break your crew’s trust and loyalty. So every little decision that you make will have a positive or negative impact up on your fleet crew. In fact, if you´re a poor leader, you might drive people to revolt against you (through sabotage and treachery, for example). As for XO´s actual gameplay (which is is procedurally generated) features, looks and feels. XO is a single player game that offers newtonian physics in a 2D plane kind of environment, and on top of that there are rogue-like elements, different star systems, weapons, crew member personalities and a political system.

So I was not all that surprised to hear that XO has been greenlit on Steam Greenlight, nor that the game has been fully funded on Kickstarter (there is 16 days left on the Kickstarter campaign) as well. So if you like games of this kind, then show XO some love on Kickstarter!
