Michael Chiklis has been officially cast for Gotham season 2. The Shield alum is no stranger to the badge or the law, and will be taking on similar pursuits in the upcoming season for fans viewing pleasure. In season 2, Chiklis will be portraying Captain Nathaniel Barnes, who TV line describes as a mentor and hero for James Gordon. Barnes ends up in the GCPD and begins “ripping out the dead wood.” Barnes is said to be a law and order zealot, unafraid of making enemies on either side of the law. For Gordon, Barnes seems to be a source of inspiration for his future, as we know he becomes Commissioner Gordon. Captain Barnes proves to be a strong ally to Gordon but one day he’ll become an equally powerful enemy.
We know in the upcoming season villains will be on the rise. We’ve heard intense rumors that The Joker, The Batcave, and other prominent enemies and locations will come. If we can stave off The Joker and just see lesser-known villains that would be very good. The reason being, we know that The Joker, Poision Ivy, and Mr. Freeze can’t show up too soon. Bruce Wayne is barely 13 years old. He’s not going to become Batman for at least 16 more years. If The Joker shows up before the end of Gotham season 2, and there isn’t a major time jump, the series will most likely implode on itself—just as Birds of Prey did back in 2005. Obviously, the show would need to shift focus to Batman becoming the main character once this happened, but it would be fine since we could see both sides. Which means Gordon in the day, and Batman in the night. That´s not a bad concept right? No.
One thing is abundantly clear, FOX needs to tread carefully, because the series is playing chicken with a very hostile enemy: DC Comics fans. Once crossed the ratings will drop, the show will get pulled, and we’ll never see anything else for another 10 years.
