A deal to bring the X-Men franchise to FOX could be nearing closure, as Marvel and FOX are still in talks. Dana Walden, CEO of FOX Television group said recently that he would love to get the greenlight from Marvel.
“The characters from the X-Men franchise are with Fox on the feature side so we won’t be including Marvel characters that are at ABC with Disney. This will be exclusively the franchise as it has existed at Fox.”
If we can take this statement, and combine it with the vision that Simon Kinberg, the producer and writer for the X-Men cinematic universe have—we could see a lot happening really fast. In 2014 he suggested that the comic book world would better serve as a serialized television adaptation. He was right, look at Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as an example. If X-Men does receive a live action adaptation, we could see many familiar faces including Jean Grey, Toad, Blob, Storm and quite possibly Wolverine. Although Hugh Jackman is finished with the character after the next movie, that doesn’t mean Marvel will let him fade away. Cameos, side stories, and even guest appearances are how characters stay immortal. Look at Batman.
Should the show begin production the plan is for it to be a long running show—quite possibly alongside Gotham. Patrick McKay, J.D. Payne are set to write, and it will have Showrunners Manny Coto and Evan Katz.
