Some of you may not know this, but Sweden is one of the most connected countries in the whole world. It´s true, since most of us (Swedes) are connected to the Internet 24/7. I can just take myself as an example of this, I got wireless Internet connection to both my iPhone and my iPad, so no matter where I go, I still got access to the Internet (more or less). As that´s a everyday kind of routine for me, but when I saw Telia´s “Tack vare internet” (Thanks to Internet) video, I really started to think about how much the Internet has done for me.
Not only when it comes to my satisfying personal needs (e-mails, watching Youtube, Twitch and so on), but also what I’ve been able to create since I first started to use the Internet back in 1995. In fact, I would never have been interested in games, code, design and music if it haven´t been for the Internet. Sure, I liked all those things before Internet even launched in Sweden, but things became much more serious for me when I could find everything that I needed on the Internet.
For example, I learned everything that I needed to know in order to create my very first map in Duke Nukem and Doom 2 thanks to the Internet. To give some other examples, I wouldn´t have been able to upload videos on Youtube without Internet, well, I think you get the point. So, yeah, I understand AronChupa (his Swedish DJ/artist and the maker of the hit song “I’m an Albatraoz”) more than well, because no Internet = fewer possibilities for creativity, business and productivity. So in my case it would be rather hard to get something done without the help of the Internet, that´s also why I’m really thankful that Leonard Kleinrock, J.C.R. Licklider and Robert Taylor got the ball rolling back in the early 1960s (the ARPANET). As it´s thanks to them that the Internet even exists today.
