A Short History of Anita Sarkeesian - Innuendo Studios

A case of bias and one-sided opinions?

When I heard about Innuendo Studios video about Anita Sarkeesian (“A Short History of Anita Sarkeesian”) I had no negative feelings or anything against it. As I had no idea what the movie would consist of, nor the background of its maker. In short. If the movie were to be full of bias and one-sided opinions, or if the movie would display both sides of the story. Well, I have watched the “A Short History of Anita Sarkeesian” video, and it´s really well-made (no doubt about that). However, just like Sargon of Akkad pointed out. There is a great deal of bias to be found in the movie. Because let’s be honest. Innuendo Studios just showed one side of the Anita Sarkeesian story, or to be exact. The narrator did not address the validity of Anita´s arguments. Some would probably go as far as calling the movie a “fluff piece.”. I´m going to let you guys/girls decide that for your own though.

Here´s another thing that I would like to point. Don´t you think it´s rather strange that someone “else” have made a video about Anita´s videos? In this kind of way I mean, since Anita never finished what she once started (she collected almost $160,000 on Kickstarter back in 2012 to make 12 videos. And to this day Sarkeesian has just released six videos).

That´s another way to describe it, yes.

Always take a good look at both sides of the story

I´m going to be honest and fair though. If you have no idea who Anita Sarkeesian is (nor what she´s all about, what she said, done and so on), then it´s kind of hard to get a “true” picture of her without watching her videos, critic’s videos and vidoes of those who agree with her. Because that way you will get a chance to build your own opinion about Sarkeesian, but if you only watch Innuendo Studios video, for example. Then you won´t get the whole picture for sure. That´s also why there are a lot of comments of this kind to be found on the “A Short History of Anita Sarkeesian” video:

There is simply no doubt that Sarkeesian’s work is poor; this has been demonstrated time and time again and the reason she never, ever even considers rebutting her critics is because there are no rebuttals, otherwise she would. The issue is that you have lumped in her critics with her harassers. I find this concerning as it would put her beyond criticism. Edit: I’ve edited this comment to be less facetious. “You mean like how Anita took a clip from the hitman game out of context to make it seem like the game used the dead bodies of scantily clad women as decorations when in reality they would have had to have been murdered (likely by the person playing the game) and they just so happened to randomly ragdoll into a pose that she deemed sexual? Or like in that one video where she took the Dinosaur Planet game that was being worked on that eventually became starfox adventures and bitched about how Miyamoto was responsible for taking a game about a female protagonist and removed her in favor of a male protagonist when in reality the original game also had a male protagonist anyways?

Or what about that one video where she bitched about Kanye West’s music video for “Monster” being sexist because of the depictions of women when anyone who paid any attention to it at all could easily see the point of it all was Kanye criticizing the very thing Anita was complaining about. Anita, and by extension many of her supporters, have a track record of presenting things not just out of context, but sometimes cleverly edited to support her arguments when they normally wouldn’t. You really can’t take anything she says at face value because often times it’s not really true, at least not in the way she presents it.” – Da Bro

You should at least be honest and label this as a part of a press packet for MacIntosh Inc for open distribution so people can save some time. “I think it is telling that this video shows that Anita’s kickstarter took in an excess of 1,000% of its goal… but has not sent out dvd copies of Tropes VS women or even completed its promised video series. People gave more than what was asked for and saw no return. That alone is a huge explanation for why many of her backers can be upset.” – AlmostSober

Personally, I got nothing against Anita Sarkeesian on any level. And I would never hurt her nor threaten her in any kind of way. However, I do disagree with a lot of her statements and opinions. And that´s perfectly fine. It’s not cool to threaten her though. There´s no need to do that either, just keep it clean and prove your points with facts and evidence instead.

So, what do you think about Innuendo Studios Anita video? Was it a fair and balanced video? Or was it rather one-sided?
