Before I drop my thoughts on this subject, I just want to point out that I’m an animal friend, and I have pretty much stopped to eat meat (I changed my mind about meat when I started to take care of animals myself). So, why am I bringing that up? It’s because PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has been pushing their “anti-meat” and “we are animal friends” agenda for years, and in their eyes, I’m most likely still not worth all that much. Why? Because I’m not as hardcore as they are when it comes to animal rights. Don’t get me wrong, I hate animal cruelty and suffering just as much as anyone else, but PETA has taken that hate to the next level more than one time in the past.
Well, for those who don’t know what I’m talking about. Please allow me to give you inform you about the matter. You see, PETA has been attacking games for years over the most stupid stuff that you could imagine, and I’m talking about everything from “Pokémon is basically animal cruelty“, “PETA Vs Assassin’s Creed 4” to their “Super Meat Boy” parody game (yes, I know, Super Meat Boy isn’t even an animal, but try telling that to PETA…). Even so, I have to admit that PETA might have out done themselves this time. So what has PETA done this time? Well, they appear to have been outraged by Nintendo’s cow milking game in “1-2 Switch”. As PETA claims that Nintendo has “taken all the cruelty out of milking.”:
“To simulate cow milking accurately, 1-2-Switch would need to show all aspects of dairy farming, including the violent insemination of cows on what the dairy industry itself refers to as a ‘rape rack.’ Cows produce milk to feed their babies, but their young are torn away from them soon after birth so that human beings can use their milk instead,”
“A mother cow will bellow for her calf for days after the baby is taken from her. Perhaps you could add these sounds to your game in order to remind players that by drinking milk, people support an industry that separates mothers from their babies.” – Ingrid Newkirk, the president of the animal rights group
Furthermore, PETA has also sent some truly crazy demands to Nintendo as well. As PETA wants Nintendo to add an authentic/realistic simulation aspect of cow milking into the “1-2 Switch” game, because apparently, PETA wants Nintendo to show their players everything there is to farming and cow milking (the “cruelty of milking” part). Well, you know, the last time I checked “1-2 Switch” is a video game. In other words, there is no actual cows (as in REAL cows) in the game. So therefore, there is no real harm done to cows. Then again, it’s PETA that we’re talking about here. Hell, even South Park has joked quite a few times about PETA in the past (*NSFW!*).
So on a personal level I can’t take anything that PETA says seriously. As they are quite well-known for being out of their bloody minds. Nevertheless, I hardly doubt that this will be the last time that we will see (or hear) a crazy statement (or demand) from the PETA camp. Because it’s in their nature to toss out one nonsense statement, claim or demand after another (their own history works against them on that one).
And with that said, what’s your take on this matter? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
