Let me just point out a couple of things BEFORE you start to hate and rant on me. 1. I´m not talking about who´s console that´s the best in terms of raw console power (hardware), 2. And I´m neither talking about whose console that has the most awesome games. No, I’m talking about the actual fans themselves (Sony, MS and Nintendo). For example, who behave the worst online? (comments, rants, fanboyism and so on), which fans are loyal to the max? And which camp has the most well-mannered fanboys? I actually started to think about this last night when I talked to some friends about Gaming and fanboys in general. Then I remembered one of Boogie2988´s videos (Which he made just recently), where he stated that not everyone accepts that his an all-around Gamer (Boogie plays on many different formats. He owns a PC, PS4, Xbox One and a Wii U for example). And I’m in the same camp as Boogie pretty much. As I play the games that I like, no matter which format the game (s) belongs to.
However, not everyone is cool with that. In fact, “some” people even see´s all-around Gamers as “traitors” (as all-around Gamers play games on all kinds of formats). I find that to be somewhat immature though. As it´s all about the games, and not the formats which their released too. And I’ve been like that since the late 80s. Fun fact, my first console was a Sega Master System. And it didn´t take long before I made friends who owned other formats. In fact, my best friend at the time got an NES console for Christmas. So we used to play NES and SMS games after school (we even switched systems with each other over weekends and such). And we kept that trend alive throughout the years (Mega Drive, Snes, Playstation 1, N64, PS2, Dreamcast. You name it!). Nevertheless, I´m going to admit that I´ve been a PC Gamer all my life (insert your “PC master race” jokes here) though, so that´s where my hearts at.
Even so, I have always had consoles close at hand since day one, like when I played Jak & Daxter all day and night on release, or when I bought a Gamecube just so that I could play Resident Evil Remake. And nowadays I even own a good tablet and Gaming rig. I´m lacking a PS4, Xbox One and Wii U though. So at this time I can only enjoy games for those systems when I’m visiting my friends. With that said, i´m going to jump back on track again.
As I was saying. There has always existed fanboys more or less, but things have become more extreme and hardcore since the 90s (with no doubt). Now it´s pretty much like sports in a way. You got your favorite team, and you’re ready to defend your team no matter what. And “some” people have taken that to the extreme (rants, threats, trash talking and so on). I´m talking about the most hardcore of console fanboys (the kind that hates you unless you own the same console as he/she do). Sure, I don´t remember when it all started exactly, but I’m quite sure that the MS, Sony and Nintendo fanboy war took off for real when the PS3, 360 and Wii where at the top of their game. At least I remember that the tone became much more aggressive between the fanboys after 2006-2007. Personally, I have had very little bad experience with Nintendo´s fanboys. Then again, I guess that I haven´t pissed them off all that much (yet). The Sony and Microsoft fanboys though, that´s a completely different story (when I write positive stuff about Xbox One, the Sony fanboys hate on me, and vice versa).
So here´s my question for you. Which camp (Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo) has the worst fanboys? And which camp have the best fans in terms of behavior? (down to earth, less aggressive against other fanboys and players online, etc.). Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
