I tend to scare myself some times. Especially when it comes to things that will happen in the near future. Because if you watched our “Elliot Quest – Part 2 – The anti #GamerGate movement” video. Then you would know what i mean by that.
But for those who diden´t watch that video, i´m going to make a long story short.
In the “The anti #GamerGate movement” video i gave my thoughts on the present and the future state of #GamerGate, and the anti #GamerGate movement.
And i foresaw that there would be a boycott against both developers, company´s and even webpages, and sadly enough i was right.
And even though i´ve lost count over how many #GamerGate related articles that we have written to this date, or how many months that we´ve have been covering #GamerGate.
I do remember that we wrote our very first #GamerGate article back in September this year (7th of September to be exact, “Gamergate is over – Game over man, game over!” by mr Chen).
And since then things has gone from bad to worse. In my case, i feel kind of like “Alice in Wonderland“. Or like Neo did when he toke the red pill.
But as we all know (we who have watched the Matrix 1 movie). Before Neo toke the red pill, Morpheus said this:
“This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill – the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill – you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.”– Morpheus, Matrix
And that´s the best way that i can describe the #GamerGate situation right now. It´s an never-ending rabbit hole. There´s lies, corruption, politics, sex scandals and a lot of smoke and mirrors on behalf of the mainstream media.
All that (and more) can be found in the dark hole of #GamerGate (not the movement, but within the video game industry itself).
And the deeper you go into that rabbit hole, the more nasty stuff you will find (just try Googling Randi Harper AKA “FreeBSDgirl” for starter).
And sadly enough, most people don´t get (or see) the complete picture of #GamerGate. Because their spoon feed with the garbage that mainstream media feeds them with 24/7.
It takes time and effort to find out the truth, to see both sides of the same coin. But just like Mulder said in “X-Files”, “The truth is out there“, and that truth just happens to be a couple of clicks away from you.
But can you handle the truth? That´s the question. I will however give my thoughts and opinions on the recent activities of #GamerGate and the anti #GamerGate movement.
For starter, let´s go through the teams and players of #GamerGate and anti #GamerGate shall we? (if i have missed out on anyone or anything, then please point that out. And i´ll try to fix it asap!)
The GamerGate people:

Zoe Quinn – Indie game developer (the creator of “Depression Quest”)

Justin Hall – Pretentious hipster/rich kid
Arthur Chu – A huge anti #GamerGate personality (known from the US version of Jeopardy)
Claire Schumann – An oppositor of #GamerGate
The social justice warriors army (SWJ´s)
I may have missed someone (or something) on these lists, but i think i´ve gotten just about everything right (the important parts). So i´m going to move on to the next part of this article. Which would be the GG block bot (created by Randi Harper AKA “FreeBSDgirl).
The GG bot (which btw violates a handful of Twitter’s user policies) has now added over 10K people to it´s blocklist.
And you can find people such as “David Pakman” (the host of “The David Pakman show”), and companies such as “KFC” on that list. Hell, even we (The Gaming Ground) can be found on the anti GG blocklist.
Because you see, the GG bot block list is based on WHO you follow.
And IGDA (International Game Developers Association) is a big part of all this. Because according to them, everyone on the GG bot block list is a online harasser (the WORST online harassers even).
And as far as i know, we have never EVER harassed anyone, nor will we ever do that. Because that´s NOT how we roll.
There´s also no evidence to that (whatsoever). So i´m really upset over the fact that i (we) are labeled as online harrasers and women haters. Becuase it´s not true at all…
But i think i’ve covered enough on that subject. So let´s move on to the next part of the show shall we?
Then we got the case with the boycotts of both developers and companys. The most famous case that i know of (to this date), is the one that concerns a female indie developer called Jennifer D, and her indie game “SeedScape” (because of her involvement with #GamerGate somehow).
Jennifer tried to get thumbs up for “SeedScape” on Steam Greenlight, but the SJW (Social justice warriors) started a boycott campaign against it.
But thankfully enough, the SJW´s boycott failed misserbly. Because “SeedScape” received a lot of support from the #GamerGate community. So the game got greenlit on Steam Greenlight just recently.
And that really tells you three things. 1. #GamerGate has an effect on Steam Greenlight, 2. SJW´s will do just about anything to get their will through, and 3. #GamerGate has won yet another battle against the anti #GamerGate movement.
And here´s another thing worth mentioning. #GamerGate does “buycotts” instead of “boycotts”. So when the anti #GamerGate movement boycotts a dev or a company, #GamerGate jumps in and helps them out (by buying their products, services ect).
Now i want to address the recent events of Bloomberg (the financial corporation) praising Anita Sarkeesian as “Gaming’s greatest adversary”. When i first heard it, my spontaneous reaction was something like this “Bloomberg? Sarkeesian? Ehrm…”.
Because it made no sense to me, and who were the other candidates besides Anita? Anyhow, the word on the street has it that Sarkeesian has made friends with Bloomberg, just so that she can target #GamerGate´s e-mail campaign.
Because this way, she will be able to shield herself from any attempts of that kind. It´s a tactical move, and a really smart one too.
Because no one will be able to lay a finger on her (criticize her or whatever) without getting hit by heavy artillery fire from Bloomberg, and the business industry as a whole.
And speaking of Anita Sarkeesian, did you guys know that she´s a “Neuro-linguistic Programming expert“? Or that Anita once had some kind of relationship with a internet scam marketing guy called “Bart Baggett“?
Either did i, i found out about all that today. Well, do you remember what i said about the rabbit hole at the very beginning of this article? I told you, the hole is deeper than the Kola Superdeep borehole itself.
So how can i summarize all this? Well, for starter. This is a Gaming’s culture war, and it´s an open culture war that´s going on worldwide among the Gaming community. And even though many bad things has been said about #GamerGate (and the war itself).
I can at least name one very clear and positive effect of the #GamerGate movement (besides of making the video game industry less corrupt, step by step. Destructoid and Kotaku has updated their ethical policies for example).
And that would be the fact that the #GamerGate war has brought us (Gamers) closer together. No matter race, religion or sexual orientation.
And you know what? Truth will always prevail in the end.
I should however point out that the Internet Aristocrat made a really good statement just recently. When he pointed out that there´s a lot of people who tries to cash in on #GamerGate.
So their no better than the corrupt industry which their trying to fight (i think his right on that point).
And with that said, i´m leaving you guys with a really good quote by mr Sargon of Akkad
“I would very much like to see the evidence that #GamerGate people have harassed anyone. I have seen no evidence linking the harassers to #GamerGate’s concerns about ethics in journalism or even the hashtag itself, especially when it has been non-journalists who have been targeted. In Quinn’s, Wu’s and Sarkeesian’s threats, the hashtag was not used and the attack itself seemed deeply personal to the individual who wrote the threats.” – Sargon of Akkad
A big thanks to Andrew W for all the information you given us on the subject of #GamerGate.
