São Paulo – Brazil, June 29, 2018 – The award ceremony of the 6th edition of BIG Festival, Latin America’s largest independent games event, took place on the night of June 28, in the Adoniran Barbosa auditorium, in São Paulo Capital city, Brazil. General public, special guests and game developers crowded the audience, anticipating the final results that would announce the winners of the 18 categories in the competition, including Best Game, Best Brazilian Game and the People’s Choice award.

The society survival game Frostpunk by 11Bit studios, took home the most coveted trophy of the night: the Best Game of BIG Festival 2018. This year, BIG included four new categories: Best Multiplayer Game, Best Student Game, Best Game for Kids, and BIG Brands. The other categories were Best Brazilian Game, Best Latin American Game, BIG Impact – Best Educational Game & Best Social Matters Game, Best Narrative Game, Best Innovation, Best Sound, Best Art, Best Gameplay, Best Virtual Reality Game, People’s Choice and the two categories of BIG Starter, a special initiative that selects and awards the best projects still in development. The selection process was established by an International Jury composed of the five following members:

Beth Carmona
Recognized for her work with youth, she has been at TVE, Disney Brasil, Discovery Kids, TV Cultura, among others. Currently she is the general and editorial director at comKids.

Games developed by students are getting more and more popular in Brazil and around the world. In this year’s edition of BIG Festival, a

jury consisting of professors from seven Brazilian universities decided to grant an award the best game developed by Brazilian

We invited the children from GRAACC – Support Group for Children and Youth with Cancer – to help us in this incredible mission. About BIG Festival
BIG Festival (Brazil’s Independent Games Festival) has been held since 2012 and is considered one the most influential and innovative independent gaming festival in Latin America. With the mission to strengthen the Brazilian video game ecosystem, the event produces a yearly international independent video game award competition offering significant cash prizes ($24,000 in 2018), a major exhibition showcasing hundreds of games including the awards nominees, a spectacular awards ceremony event, industry related lectures and business rounds. In 2017, BIG hosted more than 20,000 visitors, 3,500 of them having participated to lectures, and more than 1600 guests attending business meetings. This year BIG will expand its schedule of lectures and workshops by incorporating new topics and areas that are part of games development cycles, such as music, animation, virtual and augmented reality, a career center, among others segments already present at the event.
