November 10, 2017 – Pula, Croatia (EU) – “Saint Kotar: the Awakening” (working title for the playable demo) will be released on April 10, 2018, the launch day of the Kickstarter campaign as well.
Back at the beginning of Saint Kotar’s development we decided to launch the Kickstarter campaign only with the playable demo released. We cannot expect from the players to support our project if we first don’t show our vision of the game and what we’re capable to do. Although we’ve made tremendous progress, the demo still needs more hard work to be ready for release. And, if we keep in mind that the upcoming months are not suitable at all for crowdfunding campaigns, the month of April starts to look like a reasonable choice.
“To some of our fans, this date may come as a surprise as you might have expected we’d do the campaign earlier, but we are confident this is the right decision.”, explained Marko Tominiæ, game director, writer and designer. “First and most important of all, it gives us enough time to polish the demo and to achieve the quality we are aiming at. Even if we can easily manage to release the demo earlier, we still would not launch our campaign on Kickstarter before April. Experience shows that the festivities and the beginning of the year are not the ideal period for a crowdfunding campaign. Don’t worry: in the meantime, we’re going to continue our work on “Saint Kotar”, even if this means we’ll have to finance the game out of our pocket up until then. There will be no standstill in development, not one day.”
The playable demo won’t be a proof of concept or a teaser. It will offer a “vertical slice” of “Saint Kotar”, which means it will sound, look and play like the full game and it’s going to last up to 30 minutes. To show the progress on the game, and to properly mark the announcement of the launch date, we’ve released a new video called “Follow the Fear”. It’s a pre-alpha gameplay footage and most elements are not yet final. The lip sync and the characters’ voices are still missing, but they will be included in the demo and, of course, “Saint Kotar” will be fully voiced to offer complete immersion. It could be interesting to mention in the article that some of our newsletter subscribers will get to play the demo before the official release, linking to the subscription’s page (http://eepurl.com/b1GqP9).

About the game:
Saint Kotar is a 2.5D point and click adventure game in development for Windows, Mac, and Linux. The game merges psychological horror narrative and classically inspired point ‘n click adventure mechanics with switchable characters. Hand-painted in a distinctive art style that fits the game’s mood, fully voiced and featuring an eerie original soundtrack, Saint Kotar draws inspiration from p&c classics like Broken Sword, Gabriel Knight and Black Mirror, along with the works from horror fiction writers such as H.P. Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe.
Plot of the game:
Invited to attend an exhibition of rare medieval art, the protagonists travel to Sveti Kotar at the end of October 2006. The welcoming is cold, as they find themselves dragged abruptly into a macabre series of murders, allegedly related to devil worship and witchcraft. These dreadful acts compel the protagonists to follow the shadow of something deeply hidden behind the town’s dark past.
