I think I “might” have found a never before seen Atari Jaguar promotional video. Well, at least I haven´t seen it before. And I have seen a lot of Atari Jaguar videos since 1993 (the console launched in North America on the 15th of November, 1993). And since my uncle bought the console on the launch day (the launch price was set at  $249.99), I got a chance to play the console at a very early stage. However, even though I (and my uncle) enjoyed quite a few games on the Jaguar back then (mainly “Wolfenstein”, “Doom“, “Alien Vs Predator”, “Syndicate” and “Cannon Fodder”).

“Do the Math”! Well, you do know that 64-bit is better than 32, 16 and 8-bit right? 😉 (the Jaguar wasn´t really a “pure” 64-bit system though).

Nevertheless, I forgot all about the Jaguar once my uncle introduced me to his Japanese PS1 (this was around early 1995). In fact, my uncle sold his Jaguar and all his games just so that he could buy himself a PS1 instead (my uncle made that decision due to the fact that the Jaguar was dying, and the system didn´t get any new games). And since all of this took place in 1995, more and more people were starting to leave the Jaguar for other “cooler” formats as well. And that took it´s told on the Jaguar, and that resulted in having the console discontinued just one year later (Atari had sold 250,000 units in total before they pulled the plug on the console in 1996).

When this video was originally released, Atari charged 159.99 USD (plus 9.99 USD in shipment costs) for the Atari Jaguar.

And quite frankly, I never looked back at the Jaguar. As I was way too busy playing PS1 and PC games instead, however, over time the Jaguar starting to get an almost cult-like following. And around 1998-1999 sometime, a retro article about the Atari Jaguar sparked my interest for the console once again. So I started to collect Atari Jaguar related stuff (posters, magazines, videos, games and what not). And I´ve been doing that for almost 17 years time now. And that´s also why I got really surprised when I found a video called “The Cave” last night. Because it´s an almost 30 minute long Atari Jaguar promotional video, which I have never ever seen before. So as you might imagine,  I got quite excited over the whole thing.

And truth be told, I found the video to be really cool. And I would probably have bought the console myself if I had seen the video when I was a kid, but I have a feeling that the video was never aired in EU. As the whole video seems to be targeting the North American market (US actors, US phone number and a US price). Any ways, since the Atari Jaguar is starting to get popular again thanks to the homebrew scene. I just thought that it would be a good idea to spread the word out about the movie. And personally, I really enjoyed watching the video. So I hope that you will like it as well.

With that said, do you have any memories of the Atari Jaguar? And what did you think about the video? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
