Call of Duty is a franchise that’s become somewhat of a punching bag in recent years, and when the Infinite Warfare trailer was revealed it became one of the most disliked videos on Youtube. The hate has been unprecedented but is infinite Warfare deserving of it? My answer is a simple no.

There is more to Call of Duty than just the Multi-player part. Because believe it or not, there is a single player campaign which has been forgotten about since the last few outings have been pretty mediocre, but Infinity Ward has put some serious effort in here, and I would say it’s the best campaign since the Modern Warfare trilogy. Infinite Warfare has it all; great set pieces, great gun play, variety and a decent story. It’s a bloody good Sci Fi game with some great characters one being a Robot called Ethan, who’s incredibly likeable.

call of duty infinite warfare jon snow

After destroying the White Walkers Jon Snow set his eyes on Space.

Kit Harrington also plays the games merciless villain whose hell-bent on destroying Earth; while he’s not quite on par with Kevin Spacy, he still delivers a solid yet brief performance. Nevertheless, I would have liked a bit more depth to his character. That aside, there’s a diverse cast in Infinite Warfare, and it works perfectly. In the 10 to 12 hours, you will learn their names and become attached to some of the characters. To put it simply, Infinity Ward has managed to put together a very good campaign.

The visuals are without a doubt the best that I’ve seen in a COD title so far. As lighting, shadows, particle effects, sky boxes and motion capture are brilliant. Whether it’s in the hull of a ship or darting though asteroids Infinite Warfare looks lovely. Furthermore, its visual fidelity is only heightened on PlayStation Pro delivering 4K (which is accomplished by checker-boarding, and that delivers a sharper image). One moment during the campaign your helmet gets shattered, and it literally looked as if the lower right of my screen had cracked! The FPS also holds up very well with very little to no issues. Sadly enough, that’s where the visual fidelity ends as the Multi-player doesn’t quite have the same wow factor; then again, you’re not left with much time to simply gorp at the sites.

call of duty infinite warfare fighting in zero g

Fighting in Zero G is quite something.

It’s not all about boots on the ground anymore. Because in Infinite Warfare there are space battles, as you get to pilot a Jackal space ship. Hell, there even are a few missions consist of dog fighting and taking out capital ships or boarding vessels, extracting hostages or a secret weapon. The campaign structure has plenty of variety and encounters are fun and varied. You’ll get to fight on the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. You’ll get your ass to Mars and more as you venture through the Solar System, and it’s utterly stunning at times. Gun play is what you’d expect from a COD title with a variety of weapons and gadgets, there’s very little that left me feeling disappointed.

Multi-Player is a tough life, as per usual there are a variety of weapons, perks and attachments, instead of the characters from black Ops 3. You have a choice of six rigs, which come equipped with various abilities. I personally like the Rig/Character set up as it helps develop more unique play styles, whether it’s aggressive, support and so on. There’s not much else new after that aside the four factions you can choose to fight for that present different challenge goals for you to accomplish during matches, completion earns you emblems, guns and camos.

call of duty infinite warfare multiplayer

Multiplayer is a relentless death race in Infinite Warfare.

So, what about the gameplay aspects of Infinite Warfare then? Well, the core gameplay is where things get a tad messy. As the maps are incredibly small, and you’ll be confronted with enemies left right and centre without little breathing room. So for the less skilled, it will feel like a walk-through hell. The MP maps could do with a little more variety. A few of them are remarkably similar, and like most COD games, none of them stand out as an immediate favorite. Life expectancy for online might vary from person to person, but admittedly, I found myself playing a lot more of Infinite Warfare than battlefield 1.

I might be the only one in the world who´s saying this…But I just don’t like zombies, mainly due to the fact I die quite quickly. When hearing that there won’t be a Spec Ops survival mode (Which was awesome in MW3) I was pretty disappointed. However, I did give it a go and to be honest. I was slightly impressed. This time around its Zombies with an 80s twist set in a theme park with all manner of goodies, there’s a variety of secrets to find including David Hasslehoff. There’s even music tracks that play throughout the theme park such as RELAX by Frankie goes to Hollywood. I didn’t see much more than that though because I died. Simply put, I’m just awful at the Zombie mini-games, but I imagine fans will enjoy this.

call of duty infinite warfare zombies

Yes, the zombies are back in biz again.

Infinite Warfare isn’t a bad game, and it´s not deserving of the hate it’s been receiving. As Infinite Warfare is one of the better Call of Duty games to release in the last few years. Sure, fair enough. The multi-player is a mixed bag, both Zombies and the Single Player campaign hold up incredibly well. I’ve personally enjoyed my time with it, and I have not lost interest in the game yet, not until I’ve unlocked the S Ravage shotgun anyway!

Pros:
+ Brilliant Campaign
+ Stunning visuals
+ Zombies (If you like that sort of thing)

Cons:
– Multi-Player will piss you off
– Zombies again
– Small maps in Multi-player

Gameplay:  4/5

tgg grade 4.5 out of 5

Verdict: 4.5/5
Infinity Ward´s COD Infinite Wafare touts a great sci-fi campaign and an adequate multiplayer mode, there are also 80s Zombies and Hasslehoff. In other words, the game is certainly worth a buy for COD and FPS fans alike.
