Funny enough, as much as I love comics (I grew up reading comics the 80s and 90s, “TNMT”, “Transformers”, “Spider-man”, “The Hulk”, you name it), I still haven’t done one single comic review for TGG. Well, that’s just about to change, because I’m just about to review Rodrigo Ybañez García’s sexy Ninja action comic “Red Ninja Momiji vol 1: Way of the Mercenary“.
So, right off the bat. “Red Ninja Momiji” is a new independent comic book series, and a very impressive one at that. As a matter of fact, it’s been years since I’ve read anything out of interest on the comic front. Why? Because both Marvel and DC Comics are full of PC and SJW garbage nowadays. So I don’t even bother with their so-called comics anymore. I pretty much just read “The Walking Dead” and some Dark Horse comics, but that’s about it.
Anyways, let’s get back to “Red Ninja Momiji” shall we? (don’t worry, my review will be spoiler free). As I was saying, Vol 1 sets a very good and high standard in terms of dialogs, action, sexiness, fanservice, characters, artwork and plot twists. Furthermore, “Red Ninja Momiji” is the kind of comic that keeps on giving throughout every single page. In other words, the comic is so exciting that you just have to keep on reading as you want to know what will happen next.
Especially since “Red Ninja Momiji” kicks-off at a very high speed (you more or less get tossed right into the action from the very start), and what I mean with that is that the comic doesn’t waste any time or pages on slow story telling or boring dialogs. No, “Red Ninja Momiji” gets to the point, and then it’s soon action time again (which is followed by some nice fanservice moments here and there).
Simply put, you never really get any time to become bored, because there’s always something interesting to be found on every page. I would also like to point out that the character development and introduction of new characters is truly well done in “Red Ninja Momiji”, because in most of today’s comics (and movies for that matter) that part is rather badly done (people just come and go without any explanation, and so on).
Other than that, you can really tell that “Red Ninja Momiji” has taken inspiration from video games such as “Dead or Alive”, “Ninja Gaiden“, “Devil May Cry” and “Bayonetta” (not to mention bad girls comics from the 90s). I don’t mind that though, as I love those games.
So in my case, “Red Ninja Momiji” was my cup of tea for sure. As for the plot and setting of Vol 1, well, I said that there would be no spoilers in this review. So I will just use the comic’s own introduction for Vol 1:
The battle for the fate of a young girl has started.
And her life is in hands of one woman!
And no one will be able to stop her!
CARRIGAN CITY… a city controlled not by law or crime, but by immoral corporations that won´t stop at anything to get what they want. They use their own private armies of ruthless mercenaries to control the city and even the police.
When a young girl is the target of a violent group, she is saved by a mysterious young woman dressed in red with a flaming sword. But are her intentions noble or is there any other motive to risk her own life? Why is a private army after an apparently innocent and harmless girl? Find it out in this new graphic novel full with action and adventure with the sexiest heroine ever! Includes “Human Resources”, a short story about job interviews going wrong in the violent world of corporations and mercenaries, where only the strongest will survive and get the contract!”
So, with that said. I had a real blast reading through the 63 pages that Vol 1 had to offer. I just hope that Vol II will drop in the near future, because I’m very curious to know what will happen next in “Red Ninja Momiji”.
+ Old-school-like 80s and 90s comics in 2018!

+ Tons of kick-ass action and sexy females
+ The price for the comic is a very good one (3,99 USD)
+ 63 pages of comic awesomness
+ The humor is on point
+ Impressive artwork and fighting scenes
+ Interesting dialogs
– Some spelling errors here and there
– The artwork quality differs quite a bit throughout the comic
– There is no vol 2 just yet
Plot twists/surprises: 4/5
Vol 1 of “Red Ninja Momiji” takes me back to the 80s and 90s when comics didn’t suck, fanservice wasn’t a sin, females were sexy, and you could enjoy a kick-ass story without having to worry about anyone being triggered by everything there is. Well, “Red Ninja Momiji” has brought all of that back again. So if you love action, fanservice, sexy females and Ninjas, then this is the comic for you.
