I have used and reviewed quite a few different Gaming mice over the years (I have reviewed Kone Aimo and the Kone Pure in the past, for example), but I have actually never reviewed a wireless Gaming mouse before (there is a first time for everything I suppose).

roccat leadr the mouse box

The Roccat Leadr mouse box is pretty massive and heavy, then again, the box comes loaded with a mouse and docking/charging station.

Well, not too long ago Roccat reached out to us and asked if we would be interested in reviewing their wireless RGB Gaming mouse Roccat Leadr. Long story short, I said yes.

roccat leadr charging dock

The Roccat Leadr’s charging dock is pretty darn massive (Doomguy could easily slay some demons with it for sure).

So for almost one month’s time, I’ve been using the Roccat Leadr mouse daily for both my laptop and stationary computer, and I’ve been doing so for both gaming and work purposes.

Anyways, I think you get the idea. So how well (or bad) does the Roccat Leadr mouse hold up then?

roccat leadr a view from above

The Roccat Leadr mouse works just fine with everything from Gaming, Internet surfing to common office work (Photoshop, office and so on).

Well, right off the bat. The mouse was very easy to install and use (I was good to go in just a couple of minutes), and I am yet to experience any software or technical issues with the Leadrmouse.

roccat leadr without a usb cord

The biggest downsides with the Roccat Leadr is with no doubt it’s 139 USD price tag and the mouse’s huge docking/charging station.

However, there were some other rather annoying things that I discovered instead. For example, the Leadr’s docking/charging station is pretty darn humongous, and the mouse’s battery life does not last as long as I wish that it would…(the battery is said to last for 20-hours, but that was not the case for me, mine lasted for about 15-hours).

I find Leadr’s design to be pretty darn cool and slick, and the comfort is very high as well (the mouse fits like a glove in my hand at least). I also think that there is a nice weight balance to the mouse (not too light and not too heavy). Furthermore, the software (Roccat Swarm) works like a charm (for the most part).

I also think that the wireless solution could have been better designed for the Leadr mouse since there are some flexibility problems that could be improved.

Nevertheless, all in all, Roccat’s Leadr mouse is still rather good wireless RGB Gaming mouse that could be worth picking up once the price has dropped a bit.

Pros:
+ The design looks rather slick.
+ Very nice mouse ergonomics.
+ If the battery dies you can just swap the USB cable from the dock to the mouse.
+ The mouse is can be either wireless or wired via a USB cable.
+ The Leadr mouse fits like a glove in my hand.
+ You can use the mouse over 10 feet away from its receiver without any problems.

Cons:
– The somewhat short battery life leaves quite a bit to be desired.
– The massive docking/charging station.
– The flexibility of Leadr’s wireless solution could have been better.
– The 139 USD price tag might be a turn off for some people.

tgg grade 3.5 out of 5

Verdict 3.5/5
The Roccat Leadr is a rather good wireless RGB Gaming mouse. However, the mouse is far from flawless, and it’s price tag and massive docking/charging station might be a huge turn off for some people.
