Just recently I bought myself an HP Pavilion Gaming laptop as I like the idea of working and gaming on the fly. Furthermore, it’s way easier to take a Gaming laptop with you than it is to carry around a big Gaming station.
Well, I think you get the idea. So let’s fast forward to the part the concerns the Roccat SOVA mechanical Gaming lapboard, shall we?
Long story short, just a couple of days after that I bought my HP Pavilion Gaming laptop Roccat reached out to us and asked if we wouldn’t like to review the Roccat Sova, and I said yes.
Because I felt like the Roccat Sova could work really well together with my HP Pavilion Gaming laptop, and I was right.
As a matter of fact, not only did the Sova do wonders on the gaming front, the keyboard also works like charm for work-related matters as well (this whole review has been done with the help of the Sova keyboard).
So from a laptop users view, the Roccat Sova is a real blessing as I can use its keyboard instead of the laptop keyboard. Furthermore, I could also plug-in my Roccat Kone Pure Owl-eye Gaming mouse to the Sova. So that saved one USB port on my laptop (that’s a huge plus in my book).
With that said, let’s move on to parts that concern design, tech, software, installation and Gaming.
Right off the bat, the Roccat Sova follows the plug and play standard. So you just have to plug it in and you’re good to go (it took me just a minute or two to do so on Windows 10).
As for the design. The Roccat Sova looks rather stylish and almost cyberpunk: ish with its blue keyboard RGB lights, and the tech and software (Roccat Swarm) does what it should.
As the keyboard, cables and everything works like a charm from the go, and last but not least we got the Gaming aspects of the Roccat Sova.
Well, I can play pretty much everything there is on the Sova, and I didn’t experience any lag, technical issues or such.
So, all in all, I have to say that the Sova is a very impressive and good mechanical Gaming lapboard. However, it’s 200 USD price tag, size and weight might be a huge turn off for some gamers.
So keep those things in mind if you intend to buy the Roccat Sova.
Pros:
+ It’s a very comfortable keyboard
+ The keyboard is rather light for its size (five pounds)
+ Two USB 2.0 ports. So that means that you could plug-in a mouse and a gamepad to the keyboard (for example)
+A 4 m break-away cable
+ Replaceable wrist rest and lap cushions.
Cons:
– The 200 USD price tag
– There’s room for ergonomic improvements with no doubt
– The mousepad leaves a lot to offer (there isn’t enough resistance for the mouse)
– It’s size and weight might be a huge turn off for some gamers
– Only for right handed folks
Technology: 4/5
Comfort: 4/5
Software: 5/5
Design: 4/5
Verdict 4/5
The Roccat Sova is with no doubt A really good mechanical Gaming lapboard. However, it’s 200 USD price tag, size and weight takes away from the final score (thus the 4/5 verdict grade). I also feel like there’s room for improvements on the ergonomic front.
