“Rumblade”, from the developers Hirazawa (who also did “Mononofu”), comes the latest in the lewd 3D RPG games in the form of either web browser play or Android app. “Rumblade “ is taking place in Japan, and you are tasked with ridding the land of evil as per usual. To do this, does of course, require the use of rather beautiful girls both on the battlefield, and when enough affection has been raised, in bed too.
The main title screen has all the standard options available: Gacha, Friends list, modifying your battle layouts, emails, quests etc., but does feel a bit messy. The game itself is a standard turn based RPG, except it is played on a three by three board with your enemies placed in various strategic positions.
Every move takes Action Points (AP), but fortunately when your players have amassed enough power, your Artefact can be used to launch an extremely powerful ability. You can either choose to make all the moves yourself, which means you need to choose who you attack and what time of attack, or you can let the program do it all for you at various speeds.
The automated system seems okay, but it did use an Artefact when it probably wasn’t really needed, so it might be worth being careful how (and when) you let the computer take control. Once you win (hopefully), you will gain some small prize, and your characters experience will increase (and hopefully move to the next skill level).
As for losing, well, if you lose then you can either resurrect your team or restart. The number of battles per day is limited, but as it starts quite high, it shouldn’t be a problem. However, there is also a stamina limit, which may affect how long you can play. In addition to the fighting, you can also upgrade your girls with various objects hopefully leading to eventual evolution for even more power.
Fighting in dungeons allows you to collect gifts for the girls, which increases affection, and which, in turn leads to one-on-one time. After most battles, the story continues as a rather basic, and slightly cliqued ,visual novel format. It’s not bad, but the use of English is, as standard with translated games, somewhat iffy at times.
The graphics during this section are quite nice with simplistic animation making a nice change to static graphics, which is a shame as the sex scenes, which whilst… interesting… are static and certainly not as well drawn as other adult games like “Sacred Sword“. They are at more or less the correct length too – not too long or short.
The city production section (which is used to produce items and money for your use, and, later on, to increase experience for your samurai) is pretty unique. It’s a nice touch that should make buying and upgrading things a bit easier if you don’t want to spend money.
Being for Android and web browser, you can’t expect too much from the 3D graphics, but they are nicely drawn, if somewhat lacking in detail during the fight sequences. Other than that, Live2D is used for the characters elsewhere, and it’s put to good use.
I mean, sure. “Rumblade” could be said that it is just another lewd RPG game in the vast sea of lewd RPG games, but whilst it’s nothing really new, there are a few unique aspects to it that could be of interest. I would also like to point out that the girls are nice, which is the important part. So it’s going to be interesting to see if the game can be completed without having to actually spend money…
Nevertheless, all in all, I still have to say that “Rumblade” is a rather good and entertaining +18 lewd turn-based RPG (even though I had wished for more of the good stuff, and less of the bad stuff). So if you’re into game like that, then you might want to give “Rumblade” a try. Especially since the game is free-to-play for PC and Android.
Pros:
+ Girls are nicely drawn both inside the main game and elsewhere, although the 3D battle sections could do with more detail. Good use of Live2D
+ How battles are performed is a bit different that usual
+ Getting aid from other players can be handy
+ City building section certain adds a bit more fun to the game
+ Characters are voiced…
Cons:
– Some of the English is a bit dodgy, sometimes making the story confusing
– Sex scenes aren’t as well drawn as in some other lewd games from Nutaku, and they are rather static as well
– Can be a browser game, rather than an application. So that means the game may not fully fit on your screen without tweaking browser settings. However, both versions should work the same
– Characters are only voiced in certain sections of the game
– Upgrading the girls can be complex, but does add more strategy to the mix
Gameplay: 4/5
Graphics: 4/5
Sound and music: 3/5
Controls: 4/5
Replay value: 3/5
Story: 3/5
Verdict: 3/5
“Rumblade” may be just another RPG game, but it is different enough to stand out a little more than the others, and why is that? Because the city building sections makes a nice distraction, and fighting is pretty simple, and the game is backed up by a fairly complicated character upgrade system (plus some nice lewd content on top of that). So “Rumblade” is certainly worth giving a fair chance at least.
