“Ultra Space Battle Brawl” allows you to battle it out in a game of Ping Pong on a universal scale in . As the game has a very interesting twist on old-school Pong and Brick Breaker that can prove to be extremely addictive. Pick a character from a fairly large selection, where each has their own strengths, weaknesses, and ultra ability.
Not only that, but each character also has their own special backstory that places them in this crazy universal game. For example, the game’s opponents are chosen at random but the levels aren’t and follow the same path every time (I so wish that the levels were randomized, but sadly enough, that’s not the case…).
So, how the game is game played then? Well, each character can travel within the full field. So everytime the ball is hit it changes color to the team that you are on, sending it towards the enemy’s side. On each side is a colored block, and each time that block is hit with the ball while the color of the opposing team the player takes damage. Guarding the wall is a set of “Angry Bird” looking characters that need to be beaten down first.
There is a measure of control on which direction the ball travels depending on how the player is moving. Using short burst super speed, to get to the ball quickly, and maybe add extra power to the shot. More often than not though. So I tend to get into a button mashing session in a corner with the CPU.
Even so, the most crazy and action intense aspect of “Ultra Space Battle Brawl” is with no doubt its multiplayer mode. Sure, its couch co-op only, but that is okay. Why? Because the couch co-op matches can go up to 2v2, with any combination of player or CPU. As a matter of fact, all of this made me think that this game could actually end friendships, but who needs them anyway? Because we have intergalactic Pong at our fingertips!
That’s also why I would recommend people to give “Ultra Space Battle Brawl” a try to the Nintendo Switch, because even though there’s some down sides to be found in the game. I still find “Ultra Space Battle Brawl” to be a very fun and addictive mix of “Pong” and “Breakout”. So if you like games like that, then don’t miss out on “Ultra Space Battle Brawl”.
+ Many characters to choose from
+ Nice twists on very old genres
+ Sound effects are nicely done
+ Couch co-op is always a good thing
– Stages are set in a particular order
– No online or wireless LAN mode for multiplayer
Ultra Space Battle Brawl is crazy and wacky in many ways from backstories, characters, and moves. All set in a reimagined way of playing some classics, where it all comes together nicely. Play against the CPU, or against friends in a not so friendly couch co-op. So if all of this sounds like your cup of tea, then Ultra Space Battle Brawl might just be worthy of your time and money.
