If you’re a 90’s baby like me you grew up with certain things: The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, One Saturday Morning, and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
unfortunately two of those three is getting rebooted. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
(we’ll cover this one at a later date) While The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was the coup de grace of 1984-1999 in its heyday. Creators Kevin Eastman, and Peter Laird really created something special, that struck the hearts of kids, and adults worldwide.
Whether you were a fan of Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, or Leonardo you loved them all. From the Show, to the merchandise, and movies the turtles kept us all embraced as fans, and afficionado’s of their lore throughout our teens and adult years.
Remember the Spaghettio’s, and Fruit roll Up’s? Of course you do.
Unfortunately since Michael Bay producing the title, paired with paramount deciding to reboot the story of our iconic half-shell hero’s, he’s gathered a lot of flare from fans, and it hasn’t let up. The most recent announcement that the turtles will not be teenagers has everyone up in arms.
There have been a variety of reasons for this: the original plan to make the Turtles aliens; the casting of Megan Fox as April O’Neil; an over-the-top redesign for villain Shredder, and so on.
Fan outrage has not died down, but now CBM brings us a new report on yet another change to the basic mythology of everyone’s favorite “Heroes in a Half-shell.” Some recently leaked pictures of what appears to be a line of tie-in toys labeled “Evolution Figure Packs” suggest that the rebooted turtles will not be teenagers after all. They actually remind me of African garbage warriors of the sorts.
Given that the original title for the reboot was simply “Ninja Turtles,” reflecting the change in the heroes’ origin story, maybe this toy line is just a way to hang on to that particular detail in some way.
After all, the film’s screenwriter Andre Nemec did promise that while the filmmakers have endeavored to make the franchise their own, they didn’t do anything “overtly kooky.” Obviously by all that has happened from the casting choices, to the tie-in toy line so far this is untrue.
So, what do you think about Michael Bays Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie?
