Press release:
February 1st, 2023.
The Seattle-based (Washington, the US) indie games developer Spiderweb Software, today announced with great excitement and delight that they are going to launch a Kickstarter campaign for “Geneforge 2: Infestation”(the full-blown remaster of the 2003 open-world RPG “Geneforge 2”!) on February 8th, 2023.
Geneforge 2 will have improved visuals, a new melee and missile system, and new content including characters, storylines and abilities. There are also several planned stretch goals which, if reached, will fund new missions to explore and monsters to create to serve you.
Spiderweb Software will launch the Kickstarter with an overall campaign goal of $30,000 (approx. £24,000). Geneforge’s original creator, Jeff Vogel, will be the primary developer on the project, working alongside talented and creative freelancers to bring his vision to life.
This is the second Kickstarter by Spiderweb Software in the Geneforge series, following the successful funding of Geneforge 1: Mutagen in early 2020. Spiderweb Software aims to create an experience that feels fresh to existing and new fans alike, while keeping what made the series so popular to begin with.
Originally released in 2003, Geneforge 2 is an open-world RPG that allows players to carve their own destiny in the world. Geneforge 2’s open-ended game design will remain at the core of the experience, providing players with a seemingly endless number of ways to triumph.
You can use battle or diplomacy and trickery to reshape the world. Win the game without ever attacking a foe, or conquer the land with your own army of custom-made mutant monsters. There’s no right or wrong way to play Geneforge 2, and the remaster will build on that experience.
Developer Spiderweb Software has been developing games since 1994. A husband and wife duo, the developers have consistently released popular indie games across numerous series including Geneforge, Queen’s Wish, Avernum, and Avadon. Having released games on an almost yearly basis for close to thirty years, the studio has built an audience of fans who are passionate about Spiderweb Software’s particular style of roleplaying.
Similar to Geneforge 1, Geneforge 2’s backers will get the opportunity to take part in the development of Infestation. Spiderweb Software plans to add a powerful new monster to fight by your side, created based on backer feedback. Geneforge (and other recent Spiderweb Software titles) have been built alongside fans through the years, and Infestation will be no different.
Jeff Vogel, founder of Spiderweb Software, said: “Geneforge is one of the oldest indie game series. It was ground-breaking for its time, and it’s still fresh and innovative today. Geneforge 1 – Mutagen was a big success for us, and we can’t wait to share the next chapter.”
About Geneforge 2
