The Spain-based indie games developer Relevo today announced with great pride and excitement that their retro-future arcade game “Bullfighter NEON” (which currently is in development for PC, and is said to launch via Steam this December, 2022) is coming to Kickstarter on March 2nd, 2022.

Full of intense gameplay frantic action, and a true retro-future arcade experience! The project aims to boost its development on the funding platform starting Wednesday, March 2.

In a technologically advanced dystopian future, entertainment is king. And the newest craze is the Bullfighter Circuit, where brave contestants fight against very dangerous and armored robots, each one equipped with a vast array of weapons, rockets, and lasers; all in the name of entertainment.

Game designer and Relevo founder Jon Cortazar is an industry veteran and retro gaming enthusiast.

”We loved the idea of the 90s future-sport games comeback. In the 16-bit era, nearly every sport had its futuristic version and although that was a trend that attracted lots of gamers back then, it is somehow missing nowadays”, he explains.

“We also wanted to do something different, so we created a future where bullfighting has been canceled and transformed into a new future sport.”

The roster is conformed of six different bullfighters to choose from: Albero, a Spanish celebrity who joins the competition; Laura, a humble Mexican fighter; Miura, a Japanese contestant with an unconventional fighting style; Abril, a US athlete seeking a real challenge; Lidia, the Russian cyborg, and Brontes, a minotaur matador, half human half bull.

But the different cyberbeasts, each with different attacks and powers, are not the only dangers these great challengers will need to face. Each arena will be filled with obstacles and traps, such as lasers, flamethrowers, and mines that’ll make your task even harder.

“Even though we fight against robots we wanted the violence to stay away from the game, so no harm or attacks are performed by the fighters in any form”, states Cortazar,

“The only way to succeed in the game is by draining the cyberbeast´s batteries using your neon-muleta to perform special passes or deflect their bullets. If you are able to deplete all its energy then the robot is defeated.”

Music composer Gryzor87, known for his retro-rated songs from games such as Cursed Castilla, Battle Princess Madelyn, and Crimzon Clover World Ignition, is part of the development team. Although the campaign is to be launched on March 2, there is a pre-launch page available so users can follow the project and be notified when the Kickstarter is live.
