Retro publisher Incube8 Games, indie developer Bownly, and games producer Spacebot Interactive, announce that “Magipanels” for the Nintendo Game Boy will be getting both a physical cartridge and digital release soon.

Magipanels is a talent show-type event that attracts various magic users from all across the world. Contestants compete to demonstrate their magical prowess, the process of which is abstracted out into the form of the puzzle gameplay: the Magipanels grid, a device designed to be manipulated by channeling one’s magic into it.

Magipanels is a modern take on the match 3 genre that feels right at home on the Nintendo Game Boy. Manipulate panels on the grid one column or row at a time to form matches and earn a high score! Use character-specific abilities to radically alter the grid in your favour! The game includes a number of unlockables, for a total of 8 playable characters, 16 panel themes, 5 songs, and a couple of extra secret mysteries!

About Bownly
As a young child, Bownly’s first exposure to video games was when he received a Gameboy Pocket for his birthday one year. That single gift was enough to cement his lifelong interest in video games. From dabbling with Gamemaker Studio back on an old Windows XP machine, to programming games on a TI-84 during class, to using more modern offerings like HaxeFlixel and Unity to make game jams games, the drive to make games has been an inescapable constant in his life.

After years of hobbyist game dev, it’s fitting then that his first commercially released game, Magipanels, was developed for the very system that sparked his passion in the hobby all those years ago. In fact, Magipanels was even playtested on his original Gameboy Pocket!

Based in the UK, Spacebot Interactive are an indie game developer and publisher, who have a passion for retro style video games. They initially garnered interest with Dragonborne, an adventure RPG released in 2020, which has gone on to be one of the most successful indie Game Boy games in terms of sales.
