When I first heard about SolarFall Games hack-and-slash/action RPG game “Umbra,” (think “Path of Exile” but on steroids). I was somewhat skeptical. As I know that there is quite a few Diablo 3 clones out there (some of which are really bad). However, once I got to see some gameplay footage from “Umbra, I started to change my mind about the game. And back in June, I actually got the chance to do a Q and A interview with SolarFall Games. And funny enough, just two weeks after my interview, “Umbra” got fully funded on Kickstarter (11,141 backers pledged $406,979 in total to “Umbras” Kickstarter project on the 14th of June). So I reached out to SolarFall Games and asked if I could get my hands on the prototype demo of “Umbra”? (the game runs on CryEngine 3 by the way), and they said yes.

There are plenty of fancy spells (magic attacks) such as this in “Umbra”.

So I made a 11 minute long Umbra prototype preview about one week ago (I have been playing the prototype build for hours and hours now). So, yeah, I’ve grown tired of Diablo 3 over time, I have been in search for something “better,” something ‘new,” and something “exciting.” Well, my search might be over thanks to Solarfall Games and their open-world, hack n slash RPG “Umbra.”. However, I should point out that the final version of “Umbra” won´t be released until October next year. Nevertheless, I think that “Umbra” will be worth the long wait. Besides, this gives SolarFall Games quite a lot of time to polish, tweak, kill off bugs and improve “Umbra” before the game gets released next year. Nevertheless, so far so good I have to say, I´m still waiting for some news updates for “Umbra” though, as it´s been almost two weeks since Solarfall posted anything new about “Umbra.”

In fact, this is the latest “Umbra” update (to my knowledge):

Forums and Prototype are live ! – 31 Aug

“Hello everyone!

After two months of work, we come to you with two very nice news !

First of all, if you are a backer of rank Wizard+, you may have notice an email with the prototype access in your mail box! Based on your early feedbacks, most of you have enjoy it, and it is very encouraging for the future!

An option of the prototype allows you to connect your game session on our server in order to send us game info about it, so we can start to work on our telemetry system and gather important information for future game development.

It was very pleasant for us to see that some of you have already started to develop mods, even for the prototype!

umbra-france.com a French community website, and umbra-game.de, german community website, both provide early mods increasing the amount of enemies or revealing some secret content of the prototype, so don’t hesitate to check them!” – SolarFall Games

With that said, please enjoy my Umbra prototype preview video =)
