The Bristol-based (the UK) indie games publisher Auroch Digital and indie games developer Positech Games, today announced with great happiness and thrill that their hit-political title “Democracy 4: Console Edition“, is coming to consoles (PS4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch) via digital stores on June 5th, 2024.

Democracy 4: Console Edition is a political simulation game where you take on the role of leading one of several countries. In your position, you will be able to choose policies, laws, and take other actions which will positively impact some areas of your country, while having a negative effect on others. The ultimate goal is to win your next election through your actions.

What is Democracy 4: Console Edition?

As you begin your political career, you’ll have the option to take charge of one country from a selection of ten. These include USA, UK, Japan, France, Canada, Australia, Spain, Germany, Italy, and South Korea.

From there, you will inherit a pre-elected cabinet, who will have their own biases and opinions from the previous leader. It is then up to you to determine your chosen country’s future.

Introduce new policies, tweak existing bills, react to developing events, and look to gain the momentum in the polls from the public. You’ll have years to create your legacy – will it be one to remember as you get re-elected or one to forget as it ends in disappointment?

As leader, you will be asked to comment on situations which have achieved headline status in the press. Depending on the direction your government has gone in so far, how you deal with these can impact how the public feel you handle unforeseen events and times of crisis.

With you beginning to make your mark on the country you are overseeing, some people will get behind you and others won’t agree with the decisions you have made. This may even be taken to the extremes as you can experience assassination attempts and other challenges throughout your tenure.

If you can make it to the end of your time in office, you will have to lay out a manifesto to show voters what the future will look like for them if you are re-elected. Will these be realistic, or will you offer what you can to try and get the public’s vote if things aren’t going well otherwise?

Democracy 4: Console Edition has taken the intriguing and impactful gameplay of the PC version and adapted it, from the ground up, for consoles. From 5th June 2024, you will be elected to lead your country of choice on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox consoles. The game is available to pre-order and wishlist via PlayStation and Xbox now, while the Nintendo Switch version will be available to pre-order and wishlist in the near future.

Auroch Digital is part of the Sumo PLC Group. They are a small game development studio based in Bristol, UK and founded in 2010. The studio works on original titles and partnerships, specialising in strategy and digital tabletop games, working with the likes of Games Workshop and Ndemic Creations. About Positech Games
Positech Games is a small indie game developer from the UK, focused on complex PC strategy games. The company was founded by ex-Lionhead and Elixir Programmer, Cliff Harris (Cliffski). Cliff started programming aged 11 on a Sinclair ZX81 computer with 1kb of RAM. Positech’s first hit game was ‘Democracy’ and other titles have included the very first auto-battler ‘Gratuitous Space Battles’, ‘Gratuitous Tank Battles’, and the car-factory simulation game ‘Production Line’. Positech has also published titles by other indie developers including ‘Shadowhand’ and ‘Big Pharma’.

The ‘Democracy’ series of games are the first PC games to be built around a Neural Network that simulates thousands of virtual voters. ‘Democracy’ is used all over the world in universities and colleges to teach politics and economics, and was nominated for a BAFTA award.
