“We’ve been working on a number of retro game soundtracks since the release of our Street Fighter II restoration,” notes Mohammed Taher, Creative Director at Brave Wave Productions, “But it was important for us to follow up that iconic soundtrack with a more contemporary one. Our intent is to emphasize the importance of promoting quality game music, and not just retro game music. Twenty years from now, we will look back and wonder how Jake Kaufman was able to flex the ancient VRC6 chip to its furthest limit.”
In addition to to the two-disc compact disc and double-LP releases, Brave Wave Productions is offering two exclusive posters by Hitoshi Ariga, also available on their Bandcamp store. To create his custom artwork for the soundtrack collection and posters, Ariga followed on his tradition when drawing Mega Man by playing the Shovel Knight game in full beforehand, paying close attention to the game’s world and characters.

About Brave Wave Productions
Brave Wave is a music label based in Japan, dedicated to exploring the interplay between videogames, music and nostalgia. The dual-natured label produces and publishes music albums, both solo and compilations, as well as composes music for video games. It is run by Kuwait-based Mohammed Taher, with operating duties handled by Tokyo-based Alexander Aniel, plus special co-directing from Manami Matsumae and Keiji Yamagishi.
The label is known for bridging the gap between Western and Japanese creators, best evident in the video game Shovel Knight (by Yacht Club Games) which Manami Matsumae was able to contribute music to, as well as our mega-hit World 1-2 album, which hosted a wide array of composers from all over the world. This marriage between Western and Eastern cultures is unique to our label and the foundation of our vision.
