Press release:
07 OCTOBER 2020 –
The indie games developer Benedict Ide are today very thrilled and happy to announce that their magic-themed point-and-click adventure/puzzle game “Star Seeker in: the Secret of the Sorcerous Standoff” is coming to PC via Steam and itch.io on November 4th, 2020 (you can watch the debut trailer further down the page).
Furthermore, Benedict Ide also had the world know that there is now a free demo of “Star Seeker in” which people could download via Steam or itch.io.
A wizard lays dead, a candle grasped in his hand. A hologram glitches in the doorway, bullet frozen in midair. A cute goat bleats suspiciously in the corner.
In this classic-inspired point & click adventure, you’ll take the role of Star Seeker – a mischievous “arcane professional” working off their parole by solving magical crimes stumping local detectives. It’s up to you to unfold the evidence, discover sealed away clues and unlock the truth of what went on here.
With unique dialogue for every single combination of clues, a room of red herrings, and a detective who doesn’t know his Fire Bolt from his Mage Hand – will the truth of this case ever be found?
Set just before the main game, players can grab a free prologue demo now, and help Star Seeker uncover the dark, tragic mystery of where they left their keys and wallet. Available now on Steam and itch.io!
Developer Benedict Ide said:
“I’m a big fan of mystery games, and took a lot of inspiration from games like Ace Attorney and Danganronpa. It’s tough to balance a goofy sense of humor with the careful cause-and-effect plotting a good mystery depends on- but when it works, it feels amazing to figure it out.”
“I wanted to avoid invalidating players’ ideas with the same ‘oops, that’s not right, try again’ response when item combinations didn’t work. I thought to myself, what if I made a mystery game where you’ve got like thirty clues and you can use any of them and they all have tailored responses?”
“And then I thought to myself, “that would take ages to write and it would be ridiculous to even try.”
A year later, Star Seeker in: the Secret of the Sorcerous Standoff existed, due to my persistent habit of trying ridiculous things.”
Star Seeker in: the Secret of the Sorcerous Standoff will launch on November 4th on Steam and itch.io. A free demo is available now.
About Star Seeker in: the Secret of the Sorcerous Standoff
Good news: magic is real! Bad news: magic is highly illegal. Star Seeker is a wizard and you must solve a wizard crime or else get thrown in wizard jail by wizard- I mean, just regular police.
In this short point ‘n’ click adventure, collect evidence and use it to clear up the useless detective’s many confusions- and don’t worry about getting it wrong. Every hare-brained idea you can possibly pitch to the detective prompts unique dialogue!
Infused with quick-witted dialogue and endearing characters, Star Seeker in: The Secret of the Sorcerous Standoff distils the best features of its genre inspirations into a tightly wound mystery.
Features:
– A short, one-room point-and-click mystery dense with clues
– Unique responses for every combination of clue and question
– Customizable pronouns in the options
– Gorgeous pixelart and a magical original soundtrack
– There is a goat in it, and it goes “maaaaaa”
If you don’t think that last one is a selling point then I don’t know what to tell you
