The US-based indie games publisher and game developer Lateralis (which consist of the solo game developer Nathan Haddock), are today super excited and happy to announce that their pooch-powered side-scrolling Metroidvania “Dogworld” is now available for PC via Steam.

Available from today, Dogworld is a side-scrolling Metroidvania game set on a post-apocalyptic planet Earth, following a freak incident which caused humans to be sent deep underground to live in pods for their safety.

Players will take control of a sole survivor who has awoken to discover that their pod has been sent to the planet’s surface, and that the once ruined landscape is now lush and verdant. Oh, and it’s now populated entirely by canines.

In Dogworld, uncover a vast conspiracy and take up arms in order to save the remainder of humanity from the clutches of a rogue AI named Daddy. Players will shoot, run, jump, and slide through a mysterious world once run by humans, but which has since gone to the dogs.

Along the way, acquire and upgrade new weapons, collect secrets, meet bizarre characters, and explore the ruins of a planet left behind by humanity.

For a further additional challenge which proves that Dogworld’s bark is just as strong as its bite, players will regularly encounter unique boss battles which will really put their training to the test.

Lateralis will let the Dogworld out from today, priced $15 / £11 / €12 on Steam, with an additional 15% launch discount available for a limited time.

A Nintendo Switch version is still planned for 2021, with details to follow.

Story

After a catastrophic event on Earth, humanity is directed underground and into pods for their safety. You are told that the surface world is dangerous and uninhabitable, and inside the pods is the only safe place to be. But when you are launched from the underground in a freak accident, you realize that the surface is just fine and there’s more to this world than you thought. The surface is teeming with life, except… they all seem to be dogs. And some of them talk.
