Press release:
15th July, 2021.
First released on Nintendo eShop on 11th June, “Game Builder Garage” for Nintendo Switch will be available as a physical version at retailers across Europe from September 10th, 2021.

For a closer look at Game Builder Garage and its colourful cast of Nodon characters, check out the A deep dive into Game Builder Garage (Nintendo Switch) trailer.

For an insight into the game from two of the developers who worked on it, check out the Ask the Developer Vol. 1, Game Builder Garage interview on the Nintendo website. For any aspiring game creators who want to give Game Builder Garage a try, a free demo version is available to download from Nintendo eShop.

Featuring a series of interactive lessons that guide players step by step, Game Builder Garage allows anyone to learn the fundamental concepts of video game creation from the minds at Nintendo, with no prior experience necessary.

Through these lessons, players will discover how to build games from the ground up, by placing colourful creatures called Nodon and connecting them together. There are dozens of Nodon in Game Builder Garage, each with its own unique function and a personality to match.

With the help of the Nodon, anyone can go from blank slate to working video game prototype in no time at all, with the programming concepts presented in a fun, accessible and visual-centric way.

Once they’ve progressed through the lessons, players will be well equipped to start bringing their own game ideas to life in Free Programming mode. In both the lessons and Free Programming, it’s possible to swap between the programming screen and game screen with the simple press of a button, so aspiring creators can tinker with their programming and quickly test out their ideas in game.

Anyone looking for a little inspiration can exchange and download games with friends and family over the internet or via a local wireless connection.* This can be a great way for players to show off some of their own creations, but also for them to check out games created by others. It’s even possible to examine downloaded games in Free Programming mode, thereby pulling the curtain back on the programming used – a great way for players to study each other’s games and learn new tricks.

While Game Builder Garage can be controlled with a Joy-Con controller, Nintendo Switch Pro Controller or the controls of Nintendo Switch Lite**, it’s also possible to build games using a compatible mouse that is plugged into the USB port on the Nintendo Switch dock.

Game Builder Garage for Nintendo Switch is coming to retailers across Europe as a physical version on 10th September. Through its fun, interactive lessons and colourful cast of Nodon characters, anyone can enjoy learning to create their own video games, with no prior experience required.
