In space we brawl is a very retrospectively based game. Primarily focused for multiplayer, it offers a plethora of customization options to players and their three friends should they choose to participate.

You can play solo or take advantage of two multiplayer modes: Tournament, or Championship. In tournament, you play until there is a winner based on points after a certain number of points is achieved.

Whereas in championship, you play until you reach a certain number of points period.

in space we brawl space battle

A intense space battle from In space we brawl.

There are 11 ships, as well as 11 weapons that can be selected and customized for the players choice. Once you’ve chosen your ship and weapons, it’s up to you to choose the battlefield by choosing one of eight space maps. Throughout each map you have obstacles to overcome, as you have asteroid fields, and gusts of wind on some maps to fight against while trying to survive.

Still on other maps you’ll have two enemies to fight against: Your opponents, and aliens as well. One of the best things about the game is that it teaches you very thoroughly how to win, and play the game itself. You aren’t stuck trying to figure out how to boost or turn, because it offers a very healthy tutorial that keeps you upbeat on the mechanics.

The only downside that I can see for the title is that outside of multiplayer you don’t have very much you can do with the game besides single player challenges—so you know it’s primarily focused on multiplayer. It recreates the local co-op mode that’s nostalgic of 2nd gen systems, but unfortunately because we’ve grown accustomed to online multiplayer, we can’t find friends to come sit and play due to schedules.

However if you can this is definitely a game you can enjoy, especially due to its arcade style action with both joysticks.

Pros:
+ Great nostalgia with friends
+ Cosmic gameplay, reminiscent of Galactica or Ikaruga gameplay

Cons:
– No real solo gameplay experience
– No online experience without friends
– Not enough interactive background or super powers.

Verdict 4.5/5:
Even though you may not find friends to play along with In space we brawl is still a classic arcade game that will bring back all the classical nostalgia of the 8-16bit games that we grew up with. Once you start it’s easy to strategize what you wish to do on the maps. I highly recommend giving this title a fair shake
