Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of justice is still a ways out (the movie will premiere on the 25th March next year, in the States), but the question remains, just when does “Dawn of justice” take place? While we can’t pinpoint the answer precisely, we can provide all the facts we know so we can get close.
Batman is old
Batman will be in his 50’s when the movie starts. This is prolific for the movie, which means we’ll be seeing an aging Gotham and upcoming criminals, we’ll be introduced to. We also know that while we won’t see a ton of familiar faces we can assume we’ll see references or flashbacks to them.
In The Dark Knight Returns by Mark Miller, Bruce Wayne was old and bitter. He was sick of the world that he’d tried to save and failed at. He retired as Batman, and decided to hand up his cowl for good following the death of many of his closest allies.
In the aftermath Bruce decided to return due to a group of super mutants that tried to take control over Gotham.
New Robin is Carrie Kelly
When Dick Grayson died as Robin, and The Red Hood spurred crime Batman needed a new Robin. Unfortunately for him Carrie Kelly wasn’t his first choice, but she worked out a lot better than Stephanie Brown.
Under his tutelage she became a very big factor in the resurrection of crime fighting. Being defiant, and often times reluctant to be brutal towards criminals she bought the right balance to the Dark Knight’s life–by showing him you can care and be a force for good.
Wonder Woman is relevant
We already know Gal Go dot will be Wonder Woman and she will appear appearing Batman vs. Superman. What we don’t know is why or how she’ll be a supporting character.
If she is known as a heroine, why did she stay out of the conflict? We can assume that this attributes to her keeping her Amazons out of conflict with man. Or that she is only interested in defending her island if they cause harm to her people.
Justice League tie in
This is the biggest thing we can hope for from this movies ending. The only problem is this: if goes off of Mark Miller’s Batman, Half Jordan, and Green Arrow probably won’t be included. In the movie as it was revealed that Dick Grayson had become the new joker, Oliver Queens arm was destroyed by Superman, and Hall Jordan exiled himself to space.
The new movie would have to change this time line to give us something to hope for. Either the ending that the Justice League is being formed or that we will see Batman Beyond start.
DC has already said that a new Green Lantern movie is coming in 2020. With Tyrese Gibson, and Common vying for the role of John Stewart we can assume Hall Jordan won’t be in the roster.
With so many possibilities and even more coming up soon we can’t wait for more from Batman vs. Superman. Stay tuned for more.
