Yes, I know what you´re thinking right now “But…Aliens: Colonial Marine sucked balls?”. Well, yes. And to be fair, ACM received quite a lot of poor review scores on release (PC 37.91%, PS3 40% and 360 48.53% – gamerankings.com). And from my point of view, the game was nothing like what I expected it to be (the final version of ACM felt and looked nothing like the early trailers). So once I got my hands-on ACM I almost immediately started to get a lot of AVP 2010 deja vu feelings (truth be told though, AVP 2010 is MUCH better than ACM. Well, at least, in my opinion). And, well, I put the game down and started to play “AVP 1 Gold” and “AVP 2” instead (I would also recommend you to check out “Aliens Infestation”, because that game kicks-ass!). And I haven´t picked up ACM since then (which is over three years ago).
Well, until now that is. You see, last night I found out about James Dickinson´s TemplarGFX’s awesome Aliens: Colonial Marines Overhaul mod (version 4 is the latest edition of the mod):
“Experience Aliens: Colonial Marines how it should have been when it first released. This heavily balanced and thoroughly play-tested mod is built for exciting, suspenseful and most importantly, fun gameplay. Xenomorphs have seen the most improvements, with fixes to their behaviour and core mechanics to make them truly terrifying foes, dramatically shifting the tone of the entire campaign.
This state of the bad-ass art modification for Aliens: Colonial Marines reworks, reprograms and rebalances xenomorph AI, human AI, weapon mechanics, ballistics, animations, shaders, particles, decals, lighting, and engine features to get the best out of the game possible. This is truly the ultimate Aliens gaming experience!”
And yes, you guess it. “TemplarGFX’s Aliens: Colonial Marines Overhaul” is the game that ACM should have been from the very start (you get better graphics, sound, A.i, gameplay and much more for free!). And it’s no exaggeration either, because that´s exactly how it is. In the matter of fact, TemplarGFX’s ACM Overhaul mod has turned ACM into one of THE best Aliens games on the market (“ACM Overhaul” really offers you the “ultimate Aliens gaming experience”). And trust me when I say this, you´re going to have an absolute blast with this mod. And to tell the truth. I´m actually surprised that I haven´t heard about “ACM Overhaul” before now. Well, better late than never, I guess.
I would, however, like to point out that it´s been over two months since a new release of TemplarGFX’s “ACM Overhaul” saw the day of light (version 4 was released back in April this year). Even so, if you enjoyed games such as “AVP1”, “AVP2” and AVP 2010. Then you should download and try “ACM Overhaul” as soon as possible. A word of advice though, if you intend to play the game on your own in a dark room. Then please don´t pee or shit your pants, because there are plenty of jump scare moments to be found in “ACM Overhaul”. And with that said, have a blast!
