I have been waiting a very long time for a horror game that actually gives me some real adrenaline kicks, because most of the so-called “horror” games of today is anything but scary. Simply put, I miss horror games such as Silent Hill 1-3, Resident Evil 1-3 and the first two F.E.A.R. titles. I mean, it´s not even about horror anymore, because most of the time I just don´t feel any fear at all. There are a few expectations of course, like “Outlast 2“, “Dying Light” and “Layers of Fear“, but all in all, I miss the old-school horror games.

agony hell awaits

“Dante’s inferno” is that you?

So I got quite thrilled when my brother O.J told me about Madmind Studio´s (the studio was created by Tomasz Dutkiewicz) upcoming survival horror game “Agony” (for Windows, PS4 and Xbox One). A game which (in my opinion) looks and feels like a mix of “Doom“, “Diablo“, “Alice: Madness Returns”, “The Witcher 3” and “Dark Souls”. Well, I don´t know about you, but I like the sound of that combination a whole lot. Furthermore, the Madmind team consists of nine veteran game developers who have worked on titles such as the following (there is quite a lot of talent involved in the development of “Agony”):
The Division
Witcher 3
Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2
Alien Rage
Enemy Front
Real Boxing 2
Godfire: Rise of the Prometheus

agony the devil in me

I know. It’s hard to believe that “Agony” is made by an indie developer, but it´s true.

I have just watched six of the available movies via Agony ´s official Youtube channel, and I sure felt a lot of “The Witcher 3” vibes (plus all the games which I listed earlier). So I´m both impressed and very interested to see what final version of “Agony” will look like when the game drops to PS4, Xbox One and Windows next year. Especially since the game already makes most of today’s AAA horror games look really bleak in comparison. Well, let´s just say that the combo of Unreal Engine 4, the theme of “Agony” and it´s scary and ghoulish content blows everything and everyone out of the water when it comes to survival horror games.

agony fear of the dark

I can already tell that “Agony” is my kind of game.

So yeah, I was not surprised to hear that “Agony” has already been fully funded on Kickstarter. You see. Madmind Studio reached their 66,666 USD (I see what you did there Madmind, nice move!) Kickstarter goal rather quickly (at this very moment, “Agony” has collected almost 70,000 USD), so I bet that they will be able to reach quite a few of their extended goals as well. I think that there is a good chance of that happening at least, since there is still 26 days left on Agony´s Kickstarter campaign. As for the plot and background story for “Agony”, it goes something like this:

“You will begin your journey as tormented soul within the depths of hell, without any memories about your past. The special ability to control people on your path, and even possess simple-minded demons, gives you the necessary measures to survive in the extreme conditions you are in. By exploring the hostile environment and interacting with other weary souls of the hellscape, the hero will soon understand that there is only one way to escape from Hell, and it will require meeting the mystical Red Goddess.” – Madmind Studio

agony fear the unknown

The visuals are absolutely stunning, and the environment (s) is scary as hell.

I would also like to point out another interesting fact, if you combine the total views of Agony´s videos on Youtube. Then you get over five million views in total. In other words, there is a huge public interest in the game. So much so that “Agony” even plays on the same level of Youtube popularity as “Resident Evil 7”. In all honesty though, I would rather play “Agony”, and speaking of which. You could actually get a chance to play the demo of “Agony” if you back the game on Kickstarter. So I am rather tempted to do that myself, because based on the current system requirements specs (as seen down below) my PC should be able to run the game with no sweat. Well, I´ll see what I can do about it. As for here and now though, you can check out the latest video for “Agony” down below, and if you like what you see, then show the game some love on Kickstarter.

And with that said, what´s your take on “Agony” so far? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
