You know. I think it´s safe to say that the world can be rather small at times, because just recently we were contacted by a Japanese indie developer called Studio Nanafushi (in this case, by a guy called Yamaguchi), and they presented to me (Robin) a super sexy 2D Hack’n’Slash anime-like action/RPG game called “Dead or School” (think “Highschool of the Dead” meets “Slain” and “Duke Nukem Manhattan Project“). Well, to make a long story short. I checked out the launch trailer for “Dead or school”, and I really enjoyed what I saw.

Do you remember that scene from The Walking Dead when Rick went full berserk mode? (when Carl had an “little” eye accident). Well, in “Dead or School” you get to rip and tear a whole lot.
“Dead or School is a side scroll action game created by only three people. Combining hack and slash with RPG elements, making it an exciting game to play. Unfortunately, our production cost ran out. We would really like to make this game possible for you to enjoy. So, PLEASE help us! Thank you very much for your support”. – Studio Nanafushi

Hisako (the kick-ass girl in the picture) wants to go to school so bad that she´s willing to kill every single monster that comes in her way (all while saving kids on the fly).
However, since my Japanese is anything but good I´m really thankful for the fact that Studio Nanafushi took their time to send me an English draft for Dead or School´s features:
Actions:
Various action moves: Holding a celling, lifting things etc… together with usual actions moves, clear difficult stages, move on to the next level.
Many of the enemy:
Now gigantic monsters rule above ground. Huge spiders live in Tokyo Tower, Asakusa’s Sensoji temple is occupied by thunderers… Don’t let tough enemies attack you and get in your way!
Battle of Tokyo:
Shinjuku, Asakusa, Akihabara and Roppongi… Save Tokyo’s towns that are filled with Zombies. “Here I come! On an underground train!”
Damage system:
Notice the changes in the player, when a certain level of damage is received. Pay attention to the status, caused by damaged clothes.
Skill customization:
Gain many skills by advancing the player’s level. Dynamic actions become possible, when various weapon skills are combined.
Weapon customization
Disassemble weapons, collect parts, and customize your own weapons. Mix and match the parts. Unlimited possibilities to maximize your power; Attack, Weight, Rare effects…
Concept:
Defeat enemies, grow your own character. Collect items, create your own most powerful weapons! Hack and Slash X Girl’s action.

There will be quite a few characters for you to interact with in the full version of “Dead or School”.
So, what about the plot then? Well, I´m glad that you asked, because this is pretty much the complete plot for the game:
“Zombies conquered the land of Tokyo. No hope, sheltering underground, people lived quietly. Hisako, a girl who grew up underground, heard the word “school” from an old woman. School is where children play and learn. It is a paradise for young people. The best place to spend their youth. Hisako dreamed of “school”, and one day, she was on an underground train to go above ground. What awaits her? Despair…”
Well, I don´t know about you, but I like what I´ve seen from “Dead or School” so far. Even so, there is one “little” catch to all of this. You see. The game needs to collect 30,000 USD on Indiegogo in-order to become a reality (there is about 26,700 USD missing at the moment, with two more months left on the campaign). Nevertheless, I still have a lot of faith in the game. Especially since the Steam community seem to love the game already (“Dead or School” is doing rather well on Steam Greenlight in terms of positive feedback). So “hopefully” the game will be fully funded on time, and if that´s the case. Then we should be able to play “Dead or School” in March next year (for Windows 10).
And with that said, what do you think about “Dead or School” so far? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
