Karlshamn, SWEDEN – November, 2015 – I am excited to officially announce the ongoing series of developer diaries I am doing in collaboration with Tobias Johansson, host of #GameDevThoughts. The diaries aim to give the player an insight into my thoughts regarding the design of the game, and the different iterations the game has gone through thus far. With the aim of the game being to increase the awareness of the different issues of mental health, this felt like a logical step to try and connect with people who have an interest in these themes. The diary also serves as a great place for those who have an interest in game development focused around themes unconventional to games.
During the last year I was often asked to start a blog to let people read the thoughts that go into developing Please Knock on My Door. When I was asked by Tobias Johansson to do a guest appearance on his show, it felt like the right time and place to start talking about the thoughts and struggles behind developing a game like this. Instead of a one-time guest appearance, we felt there was enough interesting thoughts surrounding development to make it into an on-going series.
Please Knock on My Door is a game about depression, loneliness and phobia. The player will get to walk in the shoes of a person suffering from these issues, and try to get through one in-game week in the main character’s life. The player is tasked with upholding his everyday routine, including tasks such as going to work, interacting with colleagues, preparing dinner and keeping a good sleep schedule. The player is free to experiment, and by the end will hopefully understand a little bit more of what it’s like to live with mental health issues.
Please Knock on My Door will be available on Steam in 2016.
