As some of you might remember, back in May this year (on my birthday actually, May 25th) I wrote about the super awesome cosplayer Fiona Nova. Well, in my article about Nova, I said that I would try to get an interview with her. Guess what? I did manage to get that interview =)
So I talked with Nova about everything from cosplay, Gaming, lewd games, E3 2017 to hentai. So without further ado, please enjoy my interview with Nova 😉
Robin TGG
Would you be so kind and introduce yourself to our readers?
Nova
Yo! My name is Fiona, and I am a 20-year-old nerd who likes to dress up, play games and read hentai 🙂
Robin TGG
If I’m not wrong now, you’re just 20 years old, right? So I’m curious to know when, where, how and why you got into cosplaying? Furthermore, for how long have you cosplayed and how many cosplays have you done so far?
Nova
Yup I’m 20 years old. I got into cosplaying professionally about three years ago. The first time I ever cosplayed though was I think in 2011 when my little brother brought me to my first new york comic con, and he told me that I should do the “cosplay” thing. He helps me so much to this day when it comes to cosplay. I tend to make smaller, less complicated cosplays for my social media to have content. So I won’t count those, but I’ve probably made about 20-25 cosplays :p
Robin TGG?
Which cosplay do you like the most out of the ones that you’ve done so far? And why?
Nova
Hmmm, I have to say either my widowmaker cosplay or my ann takamaki cosplay. I’m leaning towards widowmaker because she’s my wife, and I’m married to her.
Robin TGG
I do re-call that you said that you had met Krissy Victory and Kay Bear before. So have you guys ever thought of doing cosplays together? (perhaps you’ve already done that?).
Nova
I’ve talked to Krissy online before! She’s very sweet <3 However, she’s dealing with so much hate these days… So please go and show her some support. As she’s such a strong girl. Kay is a sweetheart as well! We’ve never talked about cosplaying together before but that would be fucking awesome, and all three of us will be going to the video game cruise, so I’m SUPER excited to see them all there!
Robin TGG
I got really happy when I heard that you enjoyed my post about you, but I have to ask you if I got the part about you being of Italian and central African decent right? Because to be honest, when I first saw you, I thought that you were somewhere from South America. If so, is it correct that you speak several different languages?
Nova
My mom is 100% central African from Bangui, and my father is 100% Italian from Liguria, Genoa. I am mixed, and I definitely got my dad’s side when it comes to the pale-ness while my little brother is a lot darker than me. I speak French, Italian and English fluently. I speak French with my mom, and Italian with my dad!
Robin TGG
What’s the cosplay scene like in New York? And which cosplay/gaming events (which you have gone to) do you like the most? (US or none US events).
Nova
Honestly, the cosplay scene in NYC can sometimes be quiet, but there are people like TheSenpaiProject, and SexyNerds who make cosplay/gaming parties, which reunite the community in the city!I’ve been to so many conventions haha. I think my favorite one is Kastucon, which is in Baltimore, and Youmacon, which is in Michigan.
Robin TGG
What games have you enjoyed the most so far this year? And which games can’t you wait to get your hands on? And do you remember what game it was that introduced you to the world of games?
Nova
This year, Overwatch got me baaaaaad. I am super competitive in OW, and I take it really seriously and not really for ‘fun’ which can be good and bad haha! I’m currently playing Persona 5, and I played Horizon zero dawn (which was amazing). Those three definitely are a whole lot of fun =) And At E3, they announced the new Skull and bones game, which I’m excited to wreck my friends at.I’ve been playing video games forever, like I literally cannot remember the first game I’ve ever played, but the game that I think made me want to continue playing games was Super Mario bros 3. I had it on my Nintendo SP :p
Robin TGG
Just recently I had the great “pleasure” to bump into a gentleman who was very anti-cosplay (I’ll get to the point shortly). So much so that he stated that cosplay isn’t an art form. So I would love to hear your thoughts on that matter? I mean, do you find cosplay to be an art form of sorts?
Nova
Anything that a person creates can be considered art. I personally think that if someone spends their time on something, and really dedicates themselves into creating, either for them or for others, it can be considered art. Fashion is art, music is art, video games is art, etc…People have their opinions on things, so if they don’t consider cosplay an art, then that just sucks for them haha. For me, cosplay is definitely an art, like have you seen the things people make??? It’s nuts, and amazing.
Robin TGG
Are you by any chance a big fan of the Persona series? I’m asking you this since you cosplayed as Ann Takamaki (“Persona 5”) just recently.
Nova
Hell yesss I love persona 5. This is my first persona game that I’ve played on my own because Persona 3 and 4, I would watch gameplays. The game sorta scared me with all the dialogue and the bad endings, etc, so I was intimidated to play it.
Robin TGG
Since you have cosplayed as everything from Samus Aran (“Metroid“), Meiko (“Prison School”) to the Wendy’s girl, I simply have to ask you which of your cosplays have taken the longest time to complete? And is there any limits (as in a “big no no”) at all for you when it comes to cosplay? For example, where do you draw the line for lewd cosplays?
Nova
Mm, I draw the line if I feel like I wouldn’t be able to pull it off, or if it becomes maybe TOO inappropriate. Widowmaker still stays as the cosplay that took the longest time to make haha! That body suit wrecked me, I didn’t know how to make it, and I messed up so many times. It took me about six months to make that goddamn cosplay I swear.
Robin TGG
I think it’s safe to say that your Meiko Shirakii cosplay (Prison School) is smoking hot. So how did that cosplay come by? And what’s your take on the Prison School universe in general?
Nova
Yo please, whoever is reading this, watch prison school. I’m just a pervert in general so stuff like that is what I love haha, but it’s so much fun, and you will love it. That cosplay was random since I had to make some more content for social media/patreon. I love Meiko, so I thought I would just do her. I made the prison outfit the day before, and it was WAY too small, but I already booked the photo studio, so I just had to do it. The pants didn’t even fit me, which worked at the end since it goes with the prison school theme :p
Robin TGG
Did you just joke around when you said that you were 5”10 and liked hentai? Or is it 100% true? (I don’t know if it’s just me, but it seems like the younger generation of females like hentai a whole lot more nowadays). If so, how did you get into hentai? And do you like lewd content in general? (games, anime or whatever).
Nova
Depending on the doctor I am either 5’9” or 5’10”, but it’s never less or never more than that. So I’m guessing that I am around 5’9.5”. And honestly, I think a lot of people like hentai. They are just either shy to talk about it or don’t have friends who share similar interests. And If you’ve noticed that the younger generation of females like hentai a lot more these days, I think it’s because they are now not afraid to say they do :p Yeah I like anything lewd. So I just start crying of happiness when I see a butt.
Robin TGG
What’s your thoughts on censorship in games, the PAX navel policy and political correctness when it comes to lewd content in general?
Nova
I mean, not everyone enjoys lewd stuff. I get what they are trying to do, and I’m not against it. Obviously, if they put this rule, its cause people complained, and people aren’t happy about it. I guess what I’m trying to say is, conventions aren’t 18+. So we have to respect that there might be people who feel uncomfortable if they see that. There are so many lewd things on the Internet, having one convention where the cosplayers have a 5” long skirt, instead of a 4” long skirt isn’t going to kill your boner.
Robin TGG
Is there any cosplayers that you look up to and take inspiration from? If so, who?
Nova
Bindi smalls! I really wish to meet her one day, she is amazing with the 3D printer, and I love it 😀
Robin TGG
Which real and fictional (video games, movies, comics and so on) females and males do you find to be dead on sexy, and why?
Nova
UHM okay here we go:
WIDOWMAKER: she’s French, her ass, her face. She’s perfect look at her. Her eyes can kill you.
TAE TAKEMI: her FACE, she’s super punk, and she is a nurse. It’s so hot I love it. She’s also sarcastic and sweet. I love her so much.
QROW: I think I really just love sarcastic people. I love how bad ass he is, and how he pretends not to give a shit but actually gives a shit (tsundere).
GAL GADOT: If there is one person in this entire world that I wish I could look like, it’s her. She is the most BEAUTIFUL human being I’ve ever seen, like seriously. I cannot find any kind of flaw in her, and I really wish that one-day god will bless me with 1% of her looks cause she is amazing, and is a complete badass.
Robin TGG
What’s your plans, hopes and expectations for the rest of this year? And is there anything else that you would like to tell our readers?
Nova
Hmm, I’m hoping to be able to create more YouTube content, and do other things other than cosplay. Cosplay is great but I definitely have a lot of interests in other areas in the nerd community which I would love to try out. I also want to focus a lot more on my gaming since it’s a huge part of who I am.
And a message to your readers: PLEASE WATCH PRISON SCHOOL, IM TELLING YOU, YOU won’t REGRET IT.
