While a whole world of Shenmue fans is screaming for a Shenmue III. SEGA just announced that they will make a whole lineup of movies, tv-series and digital series instead.

And i´m not even talking about Shenmue here. Nope, it´s franchises such as Virtua Fighter, Golden Axe, Shinobi, Crazy Taxi and Altered Beast instead.

And everything will be done via the production company “Stories International” (which just happens to be owned by SEGA and the Japanese advertising agency “Hakuhodo DY Group”).

One of the very few good SEGA tv-series (and movies), would be the Sonic cartoon from the 90s.

However, a group named “Evan Cholfin” will handle all the production and development of the movies and tv-series. So Cholfin will be the one´s that will transform SEGA´s video game franchises into live-action and animated movies.

And Stories International made the following statement on this matter:

“looking to partner with the major studios, A-list producers and filmmakers to adapt these properties.”

Sounds pretty interesting, but i can´t say that  i´m all that super thrilled to hear this. Because we all know what happened to the “The House of the Dead” (Uwe Boll…) movie for example .

And most video game movies end up really bad in the end (Street Fighter, DOA, Tekken, Super Mario, Double Dragon, the list goes on and on!). So imo, SEGA is playing a really risky game at the moment.

Because IF the movies, tv-series (and whatnot) fails badly. Then it will hurt many of SEGA´s world famous IP´s. And that will most definitely effect sales in the end (fans might even start to boycott SEGA´s games in protest).

So, what do you guys think about all this? Are you excited to watch some Virtua Fighter and Golden Axe movies?
