Yes, you better believe it, the final Super Smash Bros. presentation broadcast has finally aired. So that means the last of the new fighters has been announced. While this ends the hype train for all, the news was still very exciting nevertheless. However, before we dive into the new fighters (including the spiky blonde mercenary Cloud Strife himself), let’s check out the update on the Mii Fighters first shall we? As I was saying, while not exactly entering Smash as an actual character Geno from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars is now an outfit for the Mii Gunner.
Along with the release of the Geno outfit (which is today of writing this article on December 15th) the Chocobo Hat that debut in the November’s Nintendo Direct is also on sale. Next year during February, we’ll see more Mii outfits including the Bionic Armor, Takamura of The Mysterious Murasame Castle, Ashley of the Warioware series, Miles “Tails” Prower and Knuckles of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and Gil of The Tower of Druaga. Some of the Mii used in this broadcast, and previous presentations will be available for download under the Downloadable Content Information page on Smash Bros.’s Official website.
Moving onto the rest of the content the presentation starts with the Corrin (the My Lord unit of the upcoming Fire Emblem Fates games) deciding that instead of dealing with political and family issues, he would enter Smash Bros. and beat the coins out of Mario. Much like Robin and the Animal Crossing Villager Corrin has a male and female selection with moves based on their game’s counterpart. He wields variation of the Yato Blade called the Omega Yato Blade which seems to have rotating teeth akin to Warhammer 40K’s Chainsword used by Space Marines.
Corrin also brings his ability called the Dragon Fang which turns parts of himself into a dragon, such as for his down special called the Counter Surge which can counter from both sides. His Final Smash is called the Torrential Roar and once activated he pulls in multiple opponents and sends them flying to their doom. Instead of a stage of his own, the additional bonus that comes with the Corrin DLC are the tracks “Lost in Thoughts All Alone” and its remix that can be played on existing Fire Emblem stages, which their odds of playing can be adjusted. As a 3DS bonus trophies for Ryoma and Xander (from Fire Emblem Fates of the Hoshido and Nohrian families respectively) upon downloading. The Corrin DLC will be available sometime in February 2016.
We move onto the previously mentioned Cloud Strife. Not only does he bring his trademark Buster Sword with his standard mercenary clothes from the game Final Fantasy VII and his robe like garbs from Advent Children (Sadly no option to wear the Blonde Wig and Silk Dress). He brings all sorts of tricks to his attacks such being able to get a three-hit chain with his side smash attack. His Limit Gauge is much like Little Mac’s K.O. Meter but isn’t visible. While getting hit will fill the Limit Gauge it can also be filled by his down special.
It changes. However, into another move called Finishing Touch, a very weak move that only causes 1% damage but if an opponent with a high damage ratio gets hit with it will be launched into an instant K.O. The Cloud DLC will also be packaged with the dystopian cyberpunk city of Midgar where players can grab a Summon Materia to call forth Summoned Monsters to change the stage for the quickest player’s favor (unlike how I said in the previous article in Nintendo Direct Highlights, my bad.). The Midgar stage is available for both the Wii U and the 3DS and the DLC package is on sale at this very moment.
Finally, we get to the winner of the Smash Ballot. It is disappointing that the ones we voted for didn’t make the cut, but we should be glad that the one who received the most votes from around the world was (in my opinion) a good pick. However, now that I look back at it, the best choice (fighter) to bring into Super Smash Bros. (for Wii U and 3DS) was with no doubt Bayonetta. So, Ladies and gentlemen, the bewitching hour is upon us.
This is the final challenger to be brought to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS and she’s not holding back, especially against Pit and Pittoo. Fans who put in many hours of her game will feel that her Smash moves are similar with both her Bullet Arts and Wicked Weaves are used for her smash and a few of her special moves respectively. Her down special is her Witch Time, which takes a spin on countering for instead of returning the damage it slows the opponent allowing Bayonetta to get in plenty of hits before it wears off.
The length of Witch Time is increased by how high the opponent’s damage ratio but can be cut short if used too often and if the move misses it becomes Bat Within which will reduce incoming damage. Bayonetta’s Final Smash the Inferno Climax activates Witch Time on all the rest of the fighters on stage giving her time to raise their damage ratio before Gomorrah arrives. Anyone who has 100% damage or higher will be launched into K.O. She comes with both her outfits from Bayonetta and the sequel and the DLC comes with Umbra Clock Tower, which will feature selected music from both games. There will also be Jeanne, Rodin, and Cereza trophies to add to the horde when downloaded. Bayonetta will be available (for Smash Bros.) in February 2016.
And now we get to the Amiibos mentioned at the end of the presentation. Amiibo figures of Ryu, Roy, and Famicom palette R.O.B. will be on sale on March 18, 2016. Additionally, Amiibo figures of Corrin, Cloud, and Bayonetta are in development. Their release date is to be announced, but I speculate sometime later in 2016.
And that is it for the Smash Bros. content. All the challengers have been built from the ground up, and we were given some amazing fighters added to the roster. Thank you Masahiro Sakurai and the development teams behind these games and characters. And that is Game.
