So Sony’s live meeting has come and gone and I, like plenty of other people, had the pleasure of watching it live. Happily, we finally get our first look at the PS4 Pro, previously known as the PS4 Neo (though frankly Neo would have made for a far cooler name). PlayStation fans across the globe had a reason to be excited. The price has been announced, giving us a price of $399.99 USD (just like the original price of a new original PS4 on its premiere) and a release date of November 10th. Personally, I don’t think the price and release date is that unreasonable, considering it comes with 1TB of memory and 4K resolution, though I suggest thinking carefully before making a definitive choice on whether or not to make room in your budgets for it, even as a PlayStation fanboy, myself.

ps4 pro and ps4 slim price

That´s a pretty decent price for slim and Pro. Especially if you don´t own an PS4 at the moment.

Supposedly the original PS4 can still play any future games releasing after the Pro in standard PS4 quality. On top of this, Sony has stated there will be nothing exclusive to the PS4 Pro that isn’t on the standard PS4, including VR. Which is nice, for those of you who don’t want to waste your time working eight hours a day at a job you hate to buy a console you don’t need. Let’s say you have a different problem. Say you want to buy the new PS4 Pro, but don’t have a 4K TV. Well, according to Sony, the PS4 Pro is still compatible with 1080p TVs, of course, and games that play on the PS4 Pro on a 1080p TV will still run cleaner and, in some cases, at a higher, if not just more stable, framerate. With 4K being pushed onto us, we have to wonder, can Sony even disappoint us with this?

Actually, yes. Despite the ways Sony is pressing on the 4K from the new games to making sure YouTube and Netflix have apps ready for release in 4K, the PS4 Pro will not have 4K UHD Blu-Ray support. Many in the audience are disappointed, and I’m no exception. Not because I actually care about 4K UHD Blu-Ray, but because I kind of expected more. I get there are hardware limitations and only so much you can cram into the double-decker PS4 console the Pro turned out to be, but you can’t blame me for being disappointed. Especially considering the meeting went on for three hours and I could swear to you that two hours of it was talking about the 4K resolution.

In addition to the PS4 Pro, they also brought up the newer, slimmer PS4, which is just…… eh. It seems to have everything that is in the standard PS4 except it’s, well, slimmer and lighter. There isn’t much else to say, except that the newer PS4 model uses less power (by 28%) and it starts selling September 15 at a price of $299.99 USD

The controller for the slimmer console now has an extra light on the touchpad that changes color depending on which player number the user is, which I personally couldn’t care less about as long as the rubber on the control sticks doesn’t start falling off like what’s happened on both controllers of mine.

ps4 controller

RIP: Battery Life.

Here and there were some gameplay trailers of games such as “Horizon: Zero Dawn“, “Infinite Warfare“, “Days Gone“, etc. Each looking stunning with the new 4K power of the PS4. I wish more of the presentation was talking about the games, as again, I feel like too much time was spent bragging about the 4K, but it was nice to get an update on the upcoming games.

In closing, while the meeting did answer questions we, the audience, have had for a while, it still leaves a lot to be desired. It seems like there was far too much time wasted on going over the same information, about how it’s in 4K and what that means instead of just showing us what that means with the gameplay. I wanted to see more from the games and see 4K for myself, the framerates, resolution, these are all visual things and yet they convey it mostly through telling us about it. If I could teach Sony any lesson in advertisement right this second it would be as follows: Show, don’t Tell.

And with that said, what did you think about the Playstation meeting and the PS4 Pro and slim console? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section down below!
