The US-based indie games publisher Versus Evil and the Romania-based indie games developer Breadcrumbs Interactive today announced with great excitement and delight that they have just released the “Roots of evil” DLC for their dark action-RPG “Yaga” (the “Roots of Evil” DLC is priced at $9.99 / £7.49 / €8.49.).

The DLC, just in time for Halloween, introduces a new biome, the Corrupted Forest filled with new corrupted creatures and boss characters. This new story chapter is filled with additional side quests that tells the story of Oakvale – a village under siege by corrupted beasts.

The fleeing refugees suspect Leshy, the forest spirit, and wish to have him destroyed. The Woodsman thinks otherwise and comes to our one armed hero, Ivan the Blacksmith, pleading for a more peaceful way.

Roots of Evil introduces vibrant new characters and folklore legends that Ivan must face including Kuma Lisa the trickster fox, the Trinket Kid and Gigi the Loan Shark. Ivan will also make use of new crafting opportunities, weapons and new magic items to help him on his new quest. Players will also get access to a new tool, the Pickaxe, used both for combat and exploration as well as two new metals for crafting, a new set of enhancements and other items.

It adds the darkly twisted Corrupted Forest for players to explore through quests filled with adventure and choices, as well as a quirky cast of new characters to discover, embrace or keep at arm’s length. The folklore and mythical tales which inspired Yaga have given us a rich palette of characters and ideas to create new and exciting side quests to weave into the larger Yaga narrative”. In addition to today’s new Roots of Evil DLC, new monsters have also been added to the base game as well, namely Spider Mother and Spiderlings. For those players that suffer from Arachnophobia there is an option to replace them with a mythical goat mother and goat kids. This is topped off by various balancing and improvements to the combat and exploration of the base game of Yaga as well.

Will Ivan the one-handed blacksmith bow to the anger of the people, listen to the Woodsman’s plea or decide Leshy’s fate all on his own?

The ‘Roots of Evil’ DLC is available for the PC version of Yaga on Steam and GOG from today. An Armful Edition bundle is also available from today which includes Yaga, the game’s soundtrack and Roots of Evil DLC priced $32.25 / £24.35 / €26.99.

Yaga’s darkly funny narrative and action role-playing premise tells the story of Ivan, a one-handed blacksmith with incredibly bad luck, who must take on the impossible tasks given to him by the tzar.
